3/4 time oddity
Using LilyPond 2.6.1, does anyone else notice an oddity with: \time 3/4 Using gs the "3" seems to be displayed correctly, over the "4," in both the .pdf and .ps versions of the document. In xpdf the .pdf looks fine, but in gpdf and the evince document viewer the "3" is either invisible or distorted or seems to be only partially displayed. This phenomenon sometimes changes with the magnification. The "4" is displayed correctly by all four applications (gs, xpdf, gpdf, evince) at all sizes. It's only the "3" that is invisible or "odd-looking." sd ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Re: Windows command prompt and lilypond 2.6 native windows
<>. Yes there is, hopefully the kinks will be worked out but there are work arounds in the meantime. Although I find the processing to be slow so that bar by bar entry takes up too much time. Haven't been able to get the linux version of lilypond working (some libc++ library is missing... and I'm not brave enough to compile the thing myself...) to compare the speeds of the version. Point and Click is still a no go with jEdit but it's fairly simple to have line numbers displayed in jEdit and all you have to do is hover the mouse of over the note in the PDF to find the line number where that note is on. I've also noted that the windows version of Lilypond has problems with spaces in names of folders and files. So I install in C:\Lilypond directory and not the program files. I was able to get point and click working with VIM but again you needed to install Vim in a directory with no spaces e.g. C:\Vim\ I am still wondering whether the 'native' version of Lilypond should only be aimed at beginners to it's simple drag and drop interface (although to get the conversion programs with python is a steep learning curve) and the windows cgywin for advanced users offering all the bells and whistles. If I could get the linux version up and running I would use it. But might have to wait for a new version for that to happen. But in the meantime windows and native does work .. there's just a bit of coercion needed. One of the things I thought was particularly interesting about Lilypond was its interface with LaTeX. I was thinking about using the DOC format to write some prefaces to works I'm editing. Furthermore, because I have to treat 'tr' as a glyph instead of \trill, markup padding is applied. This leaves you with a trill sign sitting higher up than the signs around it. Anyone have good code to achieve both these? The last time this question was posed was one year ago (and by someone else), and a lot has changed, so I'm bringing it up again. Sorry if this seems to be a repeat. I checked if I had two versions of gs. Yes, one in /usr/local/bin & one in /usr/share/bin. "Which gs" said I use /usr/local/bin/gs (which is the 8.15 version) The other, which I thought I'd got rid of was the 7.07 version. And obviously the one autoinstaller was finding, so I was brave and reckless and "rm /usr/share/bin/gs" 'ed it. This did the trick and I am now the proud owner of the latest, greatest version of lilypond. Now all I have to do is sit down and study the manual to brush up on new techniques. Dear Martin -- I took another look at your error message. I think that if you scroll further up in your error messages, you'll find that there was a non-fatal error in processing a .ly file; this causes problems for texi2dvi later. Also, have you explicitly disabled the "doc" USE flag for this? I.e. added the following to /etc/portage/package.use: media-sound/lilypond -doc You can make sure by using the ask-verbose flag when emerging: emerge -av lilypond I could almost swear that somehow the "doc" USE flag is being set. Also, if you discover the failed processing of a .ly file, it is almost assuredly because of a problem with Guile 1.6.7. If you want to try updating Guile to the CVS version, you can find instructions here: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2005-07/msg00031.html Just ignore steps 12-18, since the ebuild available from the Gentoo bugzilla handles that part for you. The way I use jEdit with Lilypond is to load the file into jEdit. I press the make lilypond file icon. It has a fit because it can't find bash (even if you have the native mode clicked). This leaves the console window open from wich you can type: "C:\Lilypond\usr\bin\Lillypond" "C:\Scores\01Son.ly" You need the quote marks the first is a direct path to where your lilypond.exe is installed and the next quoted item is the direct path of the file name. You don't have to retype this everytime you wish to make the pdf just use the arrow up and it will remember your list command (similar to dos) TrentFrom: Art Hixson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>To: lilypond-user@gnu.orgSubject: Windows command prompt and lilypond 2.6 native windows Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2005 23:40:01 -0700Typing lilypond at the Windows command prompt produces no result. Whereas, from the Cygwin console I get the default sample .ly file.I can compile a .ly file from Cygwin but not from the Windows prompt. Why?It seems the only way I can send a .ly file to the Windows install is by dragging the file icon to the Lilypond icon on the desktop. That's really painfully awkward!I really like jEdit, because it's cultivated for Lilypond and Python, but I have to have Bash there just to run it anyway. It can be pointed to the Windows install, of course. But I was much happier with the overall way things worked when Lilypond was installed in Cygwin. I'd love to have Linux up on this machine, but don't have that option.--No virus found in this outgoing message.Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.9.1/51 - Release Date: 2005/07/18___lilypond-user mailing listlilypond-user@gnu.orghttp://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Sure you can run native Lilypond from the command line, but for some reason you have to use the full path to Lilypond.exe, even if it is on the path. -- Sven Axelsson ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Daniel Johnson schrieb: Hi Daniel, Thanks a lot. I think the second way is the better one for me :) 2. Remove the autopackage and build lilypond from source; it's not too painful unless you need to build the documentation as well. There's an ebuild here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97574 If you're not concerned about building documentation, edit the ebuild and lower the guile version requirements to 1.6.7 (my ebuild requires guile-1.7.2 from CVS; building *that* is left as the proverbial exercise for the reader). Rename the ebuild to the version number you want to build; the given ebuild is for 2.7.0 but it should work fine for any of the 2.6/2.7 series. Can you give me some assistence with this? The first problem I run into is this: emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=app-text/mftrace-1.1.11". emerge tells me that there is only mftrace-1.1.2 available (~x86). I changed the version to 1.1.2 in the lilypond ebuild but this would have been too easy because the emerge fails :) The last few lines of output are: --- snip --- convert baer-flat-bw.png out-www/baer-flat-bw.eps convert baer-flat-gray.png out-www/baer-flat-gray.eps convert henle-flat-bw.png out-www/henle-flat-bw.eps convert henle-flat-gray.png out-www/henle-flat-gray.eps convert lily-flat-bw.png out-www/lily-flat-bw.eps cd ./out-www; texi2dvi --batch lilypond.texi This is e-TeX, Version 3.141592-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) ---! /var/lib/texmf/web2c/etex.fmt was written by pdfetex (Fatal format file error; I'm stymied) /usr/bin/texi2dvi: texinfo.tex appears to be broken, quitting. make[3]: *** [out-www/lilypond.dvi] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/lilypond-2.6.1/work/lilypond-2.6.1/Documentation/user' make[2]: *** [WWW] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/lilypond-2.6.1/work/lilypond-2.6.1/Documentation' make[1]: *** [WWW] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/lilypond-2.6.1/work/lilypond-2.6.1' make: *** [web] Error 2 --- snip --- Do you have any hints?
