Nice syndication site.

Too bad the first article I read was about moving Gentoo from ebuild to RPM
to support LSB. The developers' claim that the LSB stuff will outweigh the
benefits of ebuild are dubious at best. Never have seen an RPM download and

anyone looking to sell their laptop?

2003-03-31 Thread Net Llama!
my trusty (really) old Sony Vaio died over the weekend (won't power on
at all), so i'm looking to purchase a replacement, but i'm on a budget.
 does anyone have a laptop that is fully functional, that they'd be
willing to sell me with the following minimum specs:
* PIII-600Mhz
* 256MB RAM
* 10GB HDD
* CDROM drive (DVD would be a nice bonus)
* real modem *OR* two PCMCIA slots
* 1024x768 @16bpp
* lightweight (no 10lb monsters)
* will run linux without any crazy hacks or limitations

i'd also pay shipping if you're not in the San Francisco Bay area. so,
if you've got one that you're interested in selling, please contact me
off list with specs & how much you'd like for it.

I'd also consider purchasing a new laptop, but my budget is limited to
roughly US$1000, so it might be difficult to find something in that
area. If anyone has recommendations, i'd love to hear them. I'd really
rather not go to eBay, as i've heard way too many nightmare stories of
folks getting scammed on computer hardare there. thanks.

Yes it works mostly (no major failures for me), but the recommendation I
got (someone else replied on this list) was either to downgrade qt or
upgrade kde to kde 3.1.1, which is what I did. There are slack packages
available. I removed everything arts*, kde*, and qt and installed the
latest and greatest. OK if you have high speed internet.

oo is quicker launching under linux too (highly subjective)

I just fired up XCDRoast and put it on a 700 meg CD. It works with no
problem.

Not bad, but how good can it be if they forgot Linux&Main?

Looks to me like 714Mb will fit on a 700Mb CD. Be careful when dealing
with Mb as multiples of 1,000,000 or 1,024,000.

BTW, if the md5sum is correct, then you have a good iso. If you have a
good iso, it will burn onto a 700Mb CD with 2% room to spare. I have 24
March 2003 burned to a 700Mb disk OK.

Writing Knoppix v 3.1 with 700MB CD

2003-03-31 Thread tom
Greets list...

I've been trying to ftp the Knoppix iso for a
while, but I've always managed to get into a corrupt
FTP session. I've put off writing this iso for
while until I had some time.

I've got some time now, and I'm a bit curious, does one
mount the iso volume and strip software off the
714MB iso, or is there a way to write this monster
onto a 700MB CD ?

???

Oh well ... I haven't gotten a chance to download Slackware yet anyway
as originally planned. Hope to do so shortly.

Oops - I managed to wipe out the list of subscribers to my little
Slackware list here at KurtWerks during an upgrade. :-\ If you're
interesed in (re)subscribing, please visit
http://www.kurtwerks.com/mailman/listinfo/slackware/

Sorry for the inconvenience. I learned how to back up my Mailman
installation, so it's not a total loss. ;-)

Thanks,

Kurt

FYI, from a post on comp.windows.x.kde:

from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Slackware ships the problematic kdelibs 3.1.0 <-> Qt 3.1.2 combination.
Either downgrade Qt to 3.1.1 or better upgrade KDE/kdelibs to 3.1.1.

Tim
