As the conference went on, the arguments between the two sides became more and more acrimonious, and McBride became more and more confused as to which side he was representing. He ultimately got into such an argument that he was unable to keep track of which hat he was, wearing, at times, wearing one cap, or both, or neither. The conference ended when he fired himself, rehired himself, and then fired himself again.
