I remember encountering my first M100 in class in the early 80s. The guy using
it had done the rubber band trick to quiet the keyboard during class. He got
the rubber bands from an orthodontist.

I have silicone o-rings on one of my mechanical keyboards. It

I didn’t know that the 100/102 used Alps/clone switches. I wonder
if they can be replaced with Matias clicky switches, which are my
favorite. You wouldn’t be able to do the caps lock switch, since
it’s a push-push (mechanical toggling) switch and those have gone
out of fashion.

" I haven’t tried with LaddieAlpha to see if the WP-2 supports folders

Nope. The directory extensions are TS-DOS + Desklink specific.

LaddieAlpha implements the directory extensions, but the WP-2 doesn't know
about them.

DLplus also works with WP-2 last time I checked. I just don't check any
more since I focus support on LaddieAlpha.

The main thing that the WP-2 expects is directory enumeration in "both"
directions, forward and backwards.

TS-DOS only enumerates the directory in the forward order.

The WP-2 uses the "GET-PREVIOUS" entry TPDD command and that's the main
reason why other emulators don't work with the WP-2.

MComm for android works fine with my WP-2. However, you have to remember to
save the file on arch on the WP-2 -- by default it saves the file on some
unreadable binary format.

Re: [M100] status of the m100

2019-08-27 Thread Jim Anderson
My experience with the WP-2 is that LaddieAlpha works very, very well and
supports everything I tried (including the 'copy all files' command). After
specifying the com port on the command line, add the parameter '8' so that
LaddieAlpha supports 8.2 character filenames (I forget the exact details, but I
think I ended up with some filenames padded with spaces if I left it at 6.2
character support). The command would then be something like 'laddiealpha com2
8'.

I don't remember what happened when I tried using the WP-2 with mComm for
Windows, but with mComm on the Android platform it definitely has problems. I
can copy a file to mComm from the WP-2 (I use this when mobile to back up notes
I've taken) but of course they can only be put in the root of mComm's data
folder, and I am pretty sure it doesn't work if the filename is longer than 6.2
characters (it's been a long time since I tried, and I keep my filenames to 6.2
for compatibility).

Attempting to list the directory or copy files out of mComm into the WP-2 is
very limited... as soon as you start to scroll down the list of file names
turns into six repetitions of the file name at the bottom of the list, and you
can sometimes copy that file into the WP-2, but you can't scroll back up the
list, and you definitely can't descend into subfolders.

(Having said that, I haven't tried with LaddieAlpha to see if the WP-2 supports
folders there - I bet it doesn't.)

Another thing to note with the WP-2 is that the file format is proprietary.
Model T .DO files are plain ASCII text with the MS-DOS/Windows line terminator
sequence (CR LF). While Linux and other Unix-type systems (including MacOS
10.x) use a single LF line terminator in text files, the WP-2 does what the OLD
non-Unix MacOS (9.x and older) used to do, and uses a single CR line terminator.

On top of that, the .DO files have a proprietary header and embedded formatting
information in them (see http://bitchin100.com/files/wp2/wp2format.html). I've
made a small shell script to strip that and give you just the text of the file,
but you can also save a document as plain text within the WP-2. This will make
a .DA file which is plain ASCII, but still with a single CR line terminator, so
I have another shell script to turn that back into CR LF (for Model T or
Windows compatibility) or single LF (for Linux/Mac/etc)...

Actually I have several scripts for handling different cases. They're not
complex (leveraging tools like sed and grep) but they have embedded control
characters so I can't exactly paste them here in the email. (I'm still hoping
to get a personal library folder on club100.org, whoever looks after that...)

I think that LaddieAlpha is a better bet when trying to work with a WP-2. Not
having a WP-2 myself, mComm has never been tested with it. I have heard from
one person who said it worked, but two others who say it didn't. Odds are it
doesn't work properly. If you do go the mComm route, make sure whatever cable
you use matches the one in the manual.

Here is a picture of what I use 95% of the time. The three floppy disks are
there for size comparison. Sadly, the only way to make this portable is with an
external battery. I've done that, but I'd rather use my Android phone when I
want to go mobile.

Still have not found an easy (for me) option for transferring text off of the
TRS-80 (am interested in the machine for its portability and the excellent
keyboard)

I think that LaddieAlpha is a better bet when trying to work with a WP-2. Not
having a WP-2 myself, mComm has never been tested with it. I have heard from
one person who said it worked, but two others who say it didn't. Odds are it
doesn't work properly. If you do go the mComm route, make sure whatever cable
you use matches the one in the manual.

An easy way to test your tablet is to get one of those micro-usb/OTG adapters
and plug a USB memory stick into it. If your tablet sees the memory stick, it
supports OTG. The adapters run about $2 from US sellers and less that a buck
from China. But I have found the extra dollar is worth not waiting the 6 weeks
it takes for the adapter to arrive.

Opposite direction actually, I was playing .wavs from:
http://www.classiccmp.org/cini/systems.htm

into my m100 to get the actual files because I am teh 3vi1 P1r@t3 d00d

IIRC I got calc and starblaze from somewhere else, but they are on the
Net if you look a little (translation: I don't remember where I got
them :)

16 bits and a dead man's disk, yo ho ho and a bottle of jolt!

Not that I'm blaming REX... I think my m100 may be in need of a new
NiCAD, and had RAM corruption that hosed the RAM images. :-(

Yes, but no one has done the work.

Theoretically, yes an iPhone app could record the audio of a model t saving
a cassette file and then decode it, turn it into a file and share it with
some other app (like Google Drive).

But no one has written an app to capture the content and do the decoding of
the cassette file format.

Obviously not the same thing but if you want to skip the middle man you can
run CloudT on your iPhone :-)

2. What firmware are you using now.

2019-08-26 Thread Willard Goosey
Haven't said much here lately... Let me see, what m100 stuff have I
been doing?...

My pocketchip, which was my main pdd server, died. fortunately the day
after I backed up all the m100 stuff... :-)

My REX corrupted itself and I upgraded to 4.9 when I rebuilt it, files
were lost :-(

Messed around with the m100 as a terminal. Installed m100 terminfo
files. Lynx wants 4 lines of text for its ui? Pathetic!!! ;-)

Played a bunch of .wav files at my m100. I do believe I now have almost
all the old Tandy tape software. CALC.BA is probably the most useful of
the bunch, followed by Starblaze and maybe Personal Finance (I
haven't really tried out Specaculator, but if it's as weak as the
CoCo version it'll be pretty sad). ;-)

I'd read horror stories about trying to load m100 data files from tape,
but these worked fine. I guess they weren't large enough to trigger the
bugs?
