It seems to - track erase, all erase, A-B erase, divide, combine, move,
undo and titling. Not sure about the remote - the manual is pretty vauge in
that area. I'm not sure if it has a record button, but things like fade
in/out, pause, etc are there so you could prepare a deck for recording and
start/stop it from the remote.

The manual is at:

http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mxdd3_manual/

The editing part begins at page 26 if there's something specific you want
to check out.

MD: MD Boomboxes

2000-06-09 Thread DoctorWu51

I'm interested in finding the best place(US)to buy an MD boombox. Through
the link on the MD Community page, I see that there are really quite a few,
but, living in upstate NY, I don't know of any retailer here that has any
real variety of MD equipment, so I'm probably looking for online sources. I
will be going to Washington, DC in a week or so, also, so I can look there,
if anyone has any suggestions.

Feel free to email my at my home email address if you prefer. Thanks for any
input.

Sounds pretty good - in the UK they sell for about 150ukp (~460,000ITL).

They're very nice units, but I'd find it hard to justify all that cash on a
single headunit - especially when it's nearly double the price of a
standard MD one.

>Maybe I could buy the Sony one, and add a CD changer later?
>What do you think?

Good plan - afaik all of the current Sony changers will hook up with the
6500R. If you've got the money available now, you can get the DJ-M6500R
bundle - the MDX-6500R headunit with the CDX-601 changer - and save a bit
of cash. UK price is 260ukp (~800,000ITL).

Hi Luca,

There's no operational or feature difference - the RV version just has the
blue display to match VW cars (and most places seem to charge 15-20% extra
for this model). If you're not bothered about display colour, the R is a
better buy.

Worldspy.com have it for $129.99 + $8 shipping. That might be a good place.

I am considering this, but for $199 I can have the triple CDed X60. What would be the
better buy considering I don't actually need either :-)

Re: MD: Sony JE520 controls

2000-06-09 Thread David W. Tamkin

John Rolt asked regarding the JE520,

| So, are there any instructions out there for using the huge remote control
| (the manuals, in 7 languages, hardly mention it)?

The monolingual manual that came with my North American 520 didn't have a
separate section for the remote; as it describes each function, it covers
anything particular to the remote that relates to that feature.

| In particular, I'd like to know if anyone knows any sharp tricks for
| marking and deleting tracks - it's so easy to just hit the button on the
| MZR-30, instead of doing Menu / -> etc / Divide / Yes / adjust it...  Yes.
| The manual mentions one can do instant track-marking by hitting the record
| button while it's already recording, but I want to do it while playing
| back/editing.

The only editing for which the remote offers a shortcut around the menu is
titling. The only shortcut for dividing is to push AMS during playback (and
if you are satisfied with the point where you pushed it and don't need to
rehearse, just press YES on either the panel or the remote). This discus-
sion came up once before, and I said that the shortcut into division wasn't
possible from the remote. Some wag -- whom I would spare the mention of his
name if I remembered who it was -- responded that if you threw the remote at
the AMS knob such that it pushed it and recoiled back within your reach, you
could divide a track with the remote without going through the edit menu.

MD: MD recording drop outs

2000-06-09 Thread dgranro1

Hi all,

I'm new to the list. I've got a Sony MZ-R55 that I use primarily to document
live jazz performances. I've noticed that I'm getting tape-like dropouts on
some MDs. I have a hunch it might be due to reusing erased MDs although I've
noticed it a couple of times with fresh ones, where I've assumed there are some
MD quality issues. I don't really know though, are MDs prone to this kind of
thing? Or would it be my MZ-R55? I'm not an audiophile or technophile and I
figured a digital format would be immune to mundane stuff like dropouts. These
are field recordings meant to capture a moment that is not likely to ever occur
the same way twice, so it is particularly frustrating when tracks are ruined
by these dropouts and I'd like any suggestions for reducing the chances of these.
Could there be a cleaning issue?

MD: Sony JE520 controls

2000-06-09 Thread john . h . rolt

Just acquired Sony JE520, nice deck, but the main reason for acquiring the deck
was the luxury of remote editing, not crouching by the portable (MZR-30)(yes, I
could hold it but I have it plugged into the stereo).
So, are there any instructions out there for using the huge remote control (the
manuals, in 7 languages, hardly mention it)? In particular, I'd like to know if

The manual mentions one can do instant track-marking by hitting the record
button while it's already recording, but I want to do it while playing
back/editing.

Cheers, John

The $99 offer for this unit is a steal. I've used one (that I paid full
price for) for a couple of years now, without problems. It sits next to my
computer and I use it as a sound system for the computer as well as a
utility sound system for dubbing CD-MD (one-button!), recording off the
