Re: MD: Hacking SCMS

1999-11-23 Thread Regis Priqueler

If i had understood the method, you have to copy the CD to another CD
(setting the SCMS status )to finaly cpy
the second to the MD. So you need a computer and a lot of blank CD. But
for a pert of us we choose MD to avoid buying
an computer + a CDR drive.
This method isn't working for all the MD users and is expensive (one MD
+ one CD for each copy).. good try ;-)

Hello,

The only one I know (the one I bougth) is th MDS-W1 from Sony.
It copies physicaly one MD to another (ATRAC informations are copied

you can copie MD with SCMS protection.

MD: 530 in Paris

1999-09-28 Thread Regis . PRIQUELER

Hi,

Saw my first 530 yesterday. It was at sony official retail point in Paris
(Trocadero). The price tag was saying MDS 520 old price
2000 Frs ($333) new price 1790 Frs ($298). I was asking myself when Sony was
going to intrduce the new line-up when I saw
on the unit itself the magic number: 530 and the mention of the ATRAC type
R.

Waiting to see the new line-up on regular hi-fi shop.

Hi,

You've got COBRA which sell audiophile material. I don't kown precisely
their prices but they are
10% to 20% under the market price.
You ve got the SERAP but you must have a special card (price ~ -20%) if you

For recording with a VCR i use a special Peritel cable for copying tapes
from camescope. On one end you've got
a classical peritel an on the other end three RCA plug 2 for the stereo
sound and one for the video signal from the camescope.
Plug the stereo RCA's on your audio system (out tape plug on your amps) and
set the source of the VCR on out/aux then
play record or just program the VCR to start at an fixed hour (don't forget
to let the radio on). On mine i've
got Long Play recording and was able to record an 8 hours radio program on a
240 tape.

RE: MD: R90 and end search

1999-09-08 Thread Regis . PRIQUELER

Hi,

I always thought that ES was a dumb idea. I had read all this thread and it
made me think about why
sony did this and why we don't saw what the point of ES.
Every one of us use his/her portie to record CD or music from other audio
sources. Maybe Sony thought that
most users will use their MD to record voice (conference, lecture or their
own voices) like a dictaphone. In this case
you use MD like an audio tape, erasing what you don't need by overwritting
by new material. It explain why home
deck don't have this feature.
Remember that Sony is selling music en MD so i think they prefer that people
buy prerecorded MD. And one explaination
for the difficult take-off of MD's is the non-avaibility of a wide
prerecorded MD catalogue. But who cares, I think most people bougth
their MD portie for recording CD.

Maybe the rigth solution is to offer ES as an option.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my WS1 on the end of regular 74 minute MD

Did you try to divide the hiccups part from the rest, delete it and

i didn't have hiccups or dropouts or whatever.
What sort of recording did you made (anolog or digital).

Hi,

First of all, it seems that although i'm still registered to MD-L i don't
receive mail from it anymore :-(

If you respond to this please make my adress in CC.

I try to recored sounds from my VCR to my MDS-W1 continuously On deck A and
B. When i played back the discs (both and only the last minutes of each) i
heard drops in the sound like when a CD player skips during playing when the
CD is dirty. I deleted the
part where with the drop out and rerecorded music on it's... no dropouts; So
i don't think it's the discs (MPO's i think, because
the brand is FNAC).

Any experience like this

It use infrared to communicate with the deck (only Sony's) and you can get a

If i remember well its $39 for the box itself and 5 more for the RS232
option.

MD: Finaly I got it

1999-07-28 Thread Regis . PRIQUELER

Helo,

I got my MDS-W1 yesterday, after waiting 4 weeks (because Sony France is
changing is computer system and has
problems with the new one, they do this every 2 year).

I'm in France so this is a "European" unit (it's written on the cardbox made
in japan). I was wondering
if i will have the problems described on the list there's some weeks. I got
the humming (on stanby to) but it is
very low. The screen is always a little warm an the disc unit in use to (i
only try deck A).

The second fear was about the digital connection, I've got an old Philips CD
unit with only coax output and
a button "Dig Out" to use it. But it seems to work fine, no problem with
SPDIF codes.

I think its a great unit, with a lot of convenience to play with your MD. I
had to get accoustumed to the alphabetical
keyboard layout.

I was using only Maxell color disc with my 702, and i was fearing the little
curl of plastic if i use them with the W1 but
got no problem. They fit very well.

The only real problem was with my tuner who was just on the W1 and had some
sort of disturbance when i listen to radio,
so i exchange the position of the CD an the MD unit and it seems to work.

I only try a few things as naming disc while playing a disc but it's seem
impossible without disturbing it. But i found that if you
title the current track, copy the title and past it to the disc title, it
works fine, you only have to wait for deleting the title track
(if you do it during the play it restart the track).

It's a expensive unit but i think its a great one (why other brand don't do
double decks);

Regis -> who's going in a big WE just 2 day after receiving is W1... To bad!
should I cancel it

In France sharp made one for the bus in Paris. I think that the advertised

You can see three shots of a drummer with a 70's funky afro aircut. In the
first he is normal
and in the others is face gradually desapeared as is hair cut go down. And
the motto was
something like "With MD, sound never fade away".
I heard a commercial on a FM radio (NRJ) for young people (15-18) which
market target was
teenage girl and the motto was around the idea that MD was a pretty thing,
just tooo cute.
There none a lot of pub, but a lot of promotionel game have Sharp MD
portable as first price;
