Re: MD: PCLK-U5 in Europe

2001-08-02 Thread 5703171

Thanks David for correcting my poor English (I beleive that wasn't the
only mistake :-). Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I tried to say
that it is somewhat similar to Xitel's DG2, but I don't know whether
it is identical (re-badged).

OK, I think the price depends on the country (and maybe tax rate in
that country) - for e.g. Finland it is 58.86 EUR - pretty close to
59.95 USD (assuming I don't pay for oversea delivery, what is unlikely
though). But we still don't know is it the same thing as DG2. Probably
someone have seen it "live". Is it worth to buy?

Next question is still open - is it available for portable owners (at
all, maybe if more expensive). I know that none of the portables
listed on their web form, but you can use your serial number and _any_
model still.

makes much more sense that way

Nick Wall cut and pasted a message from [EMAIL PROTECTED] that called the
PCLK-U5 "Xitel's DG2 analog" [sic].

[EMAIL PROTECTED] responded,

| 1) the DG2 is not analog its digital(the an series is analog)

I think this 5703171-person meant "analogue," not "analog": that is, that
the PCLK-U5 is an analogue of the DG2. It was an extremely poor choice of
wording; it would have been far clearer to call it a counterpart or an
equivalent to the DG2, and misspelling the noun to match the adjective made
it worse. (In the UK, the adjective also carries the -ue suffix.)

Yes, the DG2 is not analog; it's digital. Yes, Xitel's AN1 (there appears
to be only that one model, no series) is analog. But the PCLK-U5 might be
an analogue of the DG2.

a few things,

1) the DG2 is not analog its digital(the an series is analog)

2) the site you gave a link to says that for 49,91 euro's you get the item (including
VAT and shipment costs), i read that as saying you aren't going to pay for shipping

3) straight from xitel the DG2 costs 59.95 in USD, thats roughly 69 euro's so even it
it was 60 euro after shipping your still saving 8 or 9, if its not 60 your saving
about 17 USD(or 19,50 euro approx)

4. if you click buy now it asks for your model and a serial number and i don't see a
single MDR(ie portable) listed

In brief Sony is offering pc link adaptor (PCLK-U5 -Xitel's DG2 analog) to
all legitimate owners of some MiniDisk decks or Hi-Fi systems for "special"
price (about 60 euros including delivery).

First of all I was a bit curious if it has anything to do with portables,
meaning if I have MZR-9oo does it mean I am eligible for that
"discount"?
Next question is what is so special about that price? I could buy Xitel DG2
straight from Xitel for that money.
Maybe I am missing something terribly important and PCLK-U5 somehow better
(or different)?
