Re: MD: Skipping on recorded MD's from early model
i was experiencing the same (NON UTOC) problem with my Sharp 702. i started experiencing drop-outs (pauses in playmode) after about 6 months of use. it then got worse: the MD would emit little whirling/clunking sounds before shutting off on its own, in record (analog or digital) and/or play mode_ or it would take forever to read the TOC. i know i ~overuse~ my MD but still... according to the tech, it's not unusual for the 'pickup' to go (akin to a CD player whose laser head is getting cranky on you) as he's seen a few units come back for repairs. i'm guessing there can't be more than 100 people who own one in Montreal, so that would still be a significant amount... (but who am i to know). SharpCanada replaced the pickup, wheel drive, and gear drive of my MD, under full warranty. maybe i was unlucky and happened to purchase a 'fragile' unit. i'm just hoping the 'dropout' problem wont reappear... my warranty is over but the repairs themselves are garanteed for 3 months. at the first sign of a dropout, i'm bringing the unit back. Now i'm starting to wonder whether or not MD technology is indeed more reliable than CD. It's a lot of cash to shell out for a fussy machine. - signing out - betty [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: MD: Skipping on recorded MD's from early model
It sounds like maybe the sled that carries the optical block could be sticking at the inner end of it's travel. It could also be temperature related - extreme cold or heat causing more errors... It's probably worth taking it back to Sony and explain that it is still not fixed and emphasis the fact that the problem is always with track one... IMHO, it's not a compatibility problem GB > Hello, > > About a year ago, I purchased a used Sony MDS-302 which worked fine but the > MD's recorded on this model skipped, mostly at the first track, when played > on a new portable player (Sony MZ-E25). MD: Skipping on recorded MD's from early model
Hello, About a year ago, I purchased a used Sony MDS-302 which worked fine but the MD's recorded on this model skipped, mostly at the first track, when played on a new portable player (Sony MZ-E25). The skipping symptoms were dropped music (dead spots where silence was heard instead of music), a quick movement from one area of the song to another (as if it was sped up momentarily) and very slow cueing when play was initiated. Almost all the time, MD's recorded on the 302 played fine on itself. Infrequently, it would skip on its own recordings. I took the 302 unit to the Sony Service Center and they replaced the optics. The problem persisted. I thought it was bad MD stock but tests with a friend's new MD recorder disproved that theory. The skipping problem does not occur all the time. I cannot see a pattern. It does seem to be more prevalent with certain kinds of MD stock and is related, almost always, to the first track. The only conclusion I can draw is a slight incompatibility between the older 302 unit and the newer models. Perhaps something with the Table of Contents? Had anyone else encountered this phenomena? Thanks. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
