You said it's a Sony, but you didn't say which model: which model? Sony
portables cannot clone TOCs, nor can Sony decks of the ATRAC 4.0 series,
but other Sony decks can.

You have to let us know which model of recorder you own, or which others you
might have a chance to use.

The only way to recover lost recordings is to write a non-empty TOC onto
those discs; the two phrases are almost interchangeable.
