2008-02-01 Thread Jeff Zedic
I quite like Linux. I'm running Ubuntu on both my laptops. One is 32 bit and
the other is 64 bit. I'm not using them right now as I'm having problems in
the 64 bit Ubuntu getting my Broadcom wireless working. Seems to be a common
problem.

I REALLY like the fact that you can find tons and tons of free software
through a menu at the desktop. That's as it should be in my tiny world.
Think of something I need to do, search the menu, find it, install it and
use it! Perfect!

[MBZ] Success! Online with PuppyLinuxOS

2008-02-01 Thread archer
Special thanks to Lt. Don who mailed me a number of Linux distros which
I've been trying to get online without success. Finally suspected the 9
pin serial port might be bad, so I hooked the 9 pin plug from the ext
serial modem to the 25 pin serial port using an adapter and it worked.
This is being sent using PuppyLinux which is (to me) the simplest and
easiest to understand of the distros. Now, if I can manage to save the
modem settings using the ntfs file. The first attempt was not successful.

Would also like to install PuppyLinux on this computer but haven't yet
figured out how to do that.
Also many thanks to all the others who have offered advice about setting
up Linux.
