Hi Ernest,
In the overall sense of things, the number of people using BioD is still
pretty small. I haven't heard or seen anything about its affect on oil and
oil change intervals - sorry -

[MBZ] extended oil drain intervals for synthetics used with BioDiesel (was: Re: Here come the diesels!)

2008-05-24 Thread ernest breakfield
hi Larry!

seen anyone do any comprehensive oil scanning on diesels using
synthetic oils with B100?

i haven't been able to get anything from any of the synthetic
manufacturers about what happens to their products when using BioD;
seems that on one hand, the need to change oil so often in our 617 would
be reduced on the basis of soot buildup (because there basically *isn't*
any), but on the other hand i'm wary about extending drain/fill
intervals because of the increased solvency of BioD and uncertainty of
what it does to the synthetics.
for the last 50K miles i've been using B100, i've been doing 3K
changes while using Delo, because it's pretty obvious that the BioD
breaks down the oil faster than #2.

cheers!
e
