[meteorite-list] Mars Rover Opportunity Update: April 25-30, 2014
http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status.html#opportunity OPPORTUNITY UPDATE: Reset and Recovery - sols 3645-3649, April 25, 2014-April 30, 2014: Opportunity is exploring south of "Solander Point" on the west rim of Endeavour Crater. The rover is headed to a region of aluminum-hydroxyl clay minerals detected from orbit. On Sol 3645 (April 25, 2014), Opportunity experienced a reset caused by write errors in flash (non-volatile) memory. As a result, the rover halted the sol's planned activities and waited for instructions from the ground. On Sol 3648 (April 29, 2014), the rover team sent commands to Opportunity to clear the fault conditions, to initialize both the high-gain antenna and the Pancam Mast Assembly, and to resume normal sequence control. Flash-induced resets have been seen three times before on Opportunity. Engineers are investigating the possible cause. On Sol 3649 (April 30, 2014), the rover drove just over 230 feet (70 meters) southward. With backward driving, the rover's right-front wheel currents have returned to lower levels, compared to elevated currents experienced recently. As of Sol 3649, solar-array energy production was 624 watt-hours, with an uncalibrated atmospheric opacity (Tau) of 0.293 and a solar-array dust factor of 0.832. Perfectly clean solar arrays would have a dust factor of 1.0, so the larger the dust factor, the cleaner the arrays. Total odometry is 24.37 miles (39.22 kilometers). __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://three.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Re: [meteorite-list] Colin Pillinger
I'm pleased that his name is being remembered around the world at this point. His death was quite a shock as, along with Martin, we were both working with him on projects. (I spent over half an hour on the phone to him a few days ago) He was a very kind, brilliant and inspiring man. "A star amongst stars". and his lecture shows just that. Hi Kevin, all, Thank you for your double thumbs up regarding Colin Pillinger's Faraday lecture. It was the second time I had posted a link to it here but felt that it was such a good example of the persona of Colin Pillinger that it needed a repeat post so that people could watch it and celebrate the life of such a great character now sadly no longer with us. Hi Kevin, I watched the video yesterday and wholeheartedly concur with you. Very interesting talk by an engaging boffin, and a lot of the information was new to me. I'm very sorry to read of the loss of such an excellent meteorite ambassador at a young age. One correction: Prof. Pillinger didn't say the Nakhla dog story was apocalyptic -- he said apocryphal. Re: [meteorite-list] List change
It may depend on the choice of email client. I'm not seeing any differences (using Thunderbird). I still see the sender in the "From" field. If I click "Reply" it still goes to the sender. If I click "Reply all" it still goes to the list and everyone else. If I click "Reply list" (which I'm using here) it just goes to the list email. No need to manually paste anything in. Michael, Something strange is happening. I am getting emails from "name of sender via Meteorite List." Take a look below at the header from your original message that I just received - it says: "From: "Michael Blood via Meteorite List." This may have to do with the email program that you are using, and/or your ISP. I am using Microsoft Outlook Express, and have Time Warner's Roadrunner Internet Service. I sent an email to Art yesterday about this, but did not hear back. Additionally, when I hit "Reply All" the Meteorite List address and the Sender's address both populate. This disagrees with what others are apparently experiencing. This is just my experience, and your mileage apparently varies. It made it Much easier in the Past to quickly decide what posts you wanted to read And often which you didn't care to read - or which first, Etc. I always read every post Bernd, Anne Black, Pual Harris, And several other wrote, usually read most of the others And rarely read some and never read a few (over the years). This new system makes it so you don't know who wrote What until you are at the end of the post and/or hit "Resend All." While one can still prioritize by topic one can no longer prioritize By sender. Is this temporary? Did I miss a post from Art about the change? When I noticed it no one commented at all. Whazzup?
