Re: [Mobile.AI] Required feed back & guidance for purchasing Enroid mobile

2014-02-28 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
Since you have a high mid-range budget, there should be plenty of
options. I would suggest you strongly consider Motorola Moto G. The
most important thing going for it is that you would get the latest
version of Android, that is 4.42 KitKat. And the company has promised
regular updates as well. I am using a Xolo Q 700 and it works fine,
but the native interface is not fully accessible, you have to install
a few apps from the playstore to make it fully functional. But those
apps are free and ones they are installed, it works absolutely fine. .
I have used a recording app on the phone and it works alright in close
range. Haven't checked it out in a not so close range environment so
can't comment. And the recording quality also would depend on the app
used.

[Mobile.AI] Required feed back & guidance for purchasing Enroid mobile

2014-02-28 Thread kavita desai
Hi Friends,

I just wanted some feed back & guidance from u regarding purchasing
samsung, Xolo or Motorola Enroid mobile.

I checked with Samsung grand 2 & I felt it is quite big.

How is Motorola & Xolo mobile? are they accessable completely. Please
give me feed back regarding these 2 mobiles too.

Where do we get talk back option in Xolo mobile.

can any of the list members suggest me some good mobiles range between
12 thousand to 20 thousand.

It should have good recording capacity with clearity so that during
training it will be helpful to me.

It should not also hang.

Waiting for your earliest reply.

[Mobile.AI] CYBERCOP: UPWARDLY MOBILE

2014-02-28 Thread sanjay
CYBERCOP: UPWARDLY MOBILE

As more financial transaction facilities are bestowed upon phones, Gordon
Holmes

contemplates the perils of mobile malware and how you can keep yourself

protected

HAVING RECENTLY REJOINED the ranks of the early-morning commuter (don't ask,

it's a long story), there's no doubt that the explosion of smartphone and
tablet

use is a marketing triumph. Everywhere you look, you'll see people peering
at

small screens and stabbing with pointed fingers in a frenzy of 21st-century

communication.

Using 3G or 4G networks to access the internet is an increasingly common
part of

our lives, and having a number of apps that allow seamless access to
shopping

and banking services is convenient and useful. Sadly, this shift in how we

access the internet has not gone unnoticed.

Mobile malware is the next big battleground. The number of Trojan-infested
apps

is on the increase, which is not surprising when you consider that financial

institutions are keen to provide more convenient methods of payment transfer

using mobile devices, leading to the bad guys paying more attention to
mobile

platforms.

ROBOT WARS

The importance of security on your desktop or laptop computer has been the

subject of a lot of media attention in recent years,

and it's fair to say that the message is getting through. Keeping your
operating

system and third-party software up to date, as well as using effective

anti-virus software, is becoming second nature to most of us now. But what
about

the security of our mobile devices?

There have been several reports published this year that together show the

security

vendors' view of what is happening in the mobile malware space. All speak of
a

significant rise in the discovery of malware affecting the Android platform.

Depending on which report you read, there has been anything from a 150 per
cent

to a 614 per cent rise in total mobile malware, with 92 per cent of this

increase targeting Android devices.

This is not really surprising, as Android is the most popular mobile
operating

system: one billion devices are predicted to be shipped with the little
green

robot by 2017. However, this doesn't mean owners of other platforms should
feel

smug; my feeling is your time will come, even if at present there isn't much
out

there to worry you.

ROOT CORNER

Sure, at present, there isn't much evidence that mobile malware is affecting

many users in the West. The malware mentioned in reports seems to be

predominantly affecting Chinese and Russian users, as this appears to be
where

many users are rooting their devices - in other words, hacking the
bootloader

and using custom software to allow enhanced permissions, and downloading
apps

from dodgy third-party sites.

This is a risky thing to do, and could explain the disproportionate amount
of

mobile malware found in those areas. I've also heard that the use of tablets
and

smartphones to perform internet banking and transfer funds between different

accounts is more prevalent in the East than the West.

So, this threat is not affecting you and me too badly - yet. However, we
should

be prepared for the obvious progression by online criminals, as new mobile
apps

provided by banks give us ever more transaction functions.

A friend of mine likened the mobile situation to the same one we faced in
1998,

before most of us had broadband and we all used modems. The scam du jour

was that Trojans would dial premium-rate numbers to generate profit for

criminals. Our mobile devices are essentially a PC with a modem, so the same

scams are being used today, only with premium-rate text messages.

SAFETY IN NUMBERS

To protect yourself against the growing mobile threat, keep your device
software

up to date and ensure that you keep your apps updated with the latest
versions

from the developer.

Don't be tempted to root your device, as this can leave you exposed, and in
many

cases it invalidates the warranty. Only download apps from a reputable
source

such as Google Play, and check up on the developer while you're at it. Read
the

app's reviews and ensure that there are a lot of positive entries and that
the

app does what you want it to do, and only what you want it to do.

Look at the permissions to which the app requests access. If you are not
happy

about allowing access to your contact lists or location, or can't fathom the

reason why the app would ask for certain permissions, don't download the
app.

Let's face it, you've made it this far without it.

You should also use an anti-virus product. Mobile AV has come a long way

recently, and it includes some great additional functions such as the
ability to

track lost or stolen phones, and remote wiping features that will obliterate

your personal details, mails and texts from afar if your device is stolen.

There's a lot of talk about the mobile phone being the next big battleground
for

malicious sof
