I CCed this mail to him, which should be enough.

I'm sorry but I simply do not have the background to make a decision

Herr Redman, can you please organize a vote?

Re: [mb-style] What is and what is not off topic

2006-06-07 Thread Frederic Da Vitoria

But my original question came from the fact that I searched the wiki
for user group and I didn't find this page, so I tought it didn't
exist at all. Ah, it was "list", not "group". Silly of me :-(

No, just joking. One of the first things I will do is add the word
"group" somewhere ;-) And this wiki page isn't much clearer than the
group's title, Don. I can't do it now (I must get my train), but I
will try to find a little time this evening.

Hmm, what about a little wiki page explaining the different mb groups,
and a few rules like this one?

I think new users may still get confused... but, quickly shiftable. The
biggest concern I saw was when asked to move the discussion it never was
moved. I was tempted to do so myself, however, that would create yet more
"traffic" than was already there.

If you're asked to move the discussion, the very next reply should be to mb
users and so forth. If you see a discussion link "RE: [mb users] title"
changed, (which you should do as well.) avoid commenting without first
redirecting to the users mailing list. Same goes to Style, or Experts or
automod, whatnot.

No big deal. I can ask Robert to change the mailing list's address.

However, I don't believe that this is the crucial point. I do not think
that a half-yearly reeducation programme is necessary, if those people who
are already part of the council behave in an educated way. ;-)
Now, this is *no* offence against anyone. The current Style Council
developed in a very soft and slow way of organizational development. This
worked remakably well. It is no surprise, that there would be a point in
this development in which the boundaries of the council got too fuzzy.

If this is the case (as I believe) then we need to define these boundaries
now, document them, and use them in practice. If we do it well, then this
problem should be solved permanently.

Someone (I think Nikki) said they thought the distinction between concrete
and abstract style issues was confusing. So obviously it is not a good
boundary. What about the simple question: "Do you need a decision by the
Style Council to solve your problem?".
If the answer is "no", or "I don't know" (or even "What is the Style
Council?", then sticke to mb-users.

Thoughts?
