[MLO] Rapid Task Entry text justified to the right, odd handling

2010-09-17 Thread on...@comcast.net
Not sure what key combination was hit, but somehow in the RTE my text
is now fully justified to the right, while punctuations fail to enter
in the correct location.

Everything is entered into the application as expected, but I want to
get back to normal.

What keys to I need to hit to get back to my happy place?

This must be newer because the first few times I used, this feature was
missing.

But lacking the voting feature we get back to the whiny complaints of the
current forum, go see xmarks on getsatisfaction as a good example of that.
Lots of people whining about the lack duplicate elimination or dead link
checking.

Cheers

RE: [MLO] MyLifeOrganized products roadmap

2010-09-17 Thread Richard Collings
I agree that the 10 vote technique is a good one - I have used it on
projects to try and get people to prioritise when 'everything is critical'.

But based on my experience of using GetSatisfaction for a couple of products
and services, I would say that it delivers a much, much better user
experience for beginners asking questions - you can quickly a) find answers
to questions to known problems with explanations and work arounds (which
cuts down traffic in the forum and I would guess reduce the support emails
too) - people don't need to post the same question over and over; and b)
if there isn't a solution, you can see whether others are looking for a
change to support what you are trying to do. When I was learning
Balsamiq, I kept returning to GetSatisfaction to get answers to all sorts of
questions

You can also get a really clear picture of what is next on the road map and
you immediately feel part of a community

With regard to there not being able to reply from the email client, what is
the difference between:

On Google groups:

.Get email message that you want to reply to

.Click Reply button

.Email window pops up

.Complete email

.Click send button

And GetSatisfaction

.Get email message containing the full post from the GetSatisfaction
forum that you want to reply to

.Click on Reply link in email

.Browser window pops up with box to fill in with your reply (with
the major added bonus that you can see the message in the full context of
the thread)

.Fill in box

.Click Submit button

As far as I can see it is exactly the same number of clicks and keystrokes.

I also get a couple of hundred emails a day (being a sad person I tend to
subscribe to too many email lists) and don't want to waste time but on this,
I just can't see the difference.

The one thing I am less certain about are the 'existential' discussions -
not so sure that GetSatisfaction handles these so well. It really needs
another Topic ( Discussions?) so as not to pollute the discussions about
product behaviour - and I am not sure whether GetSatisfaction supports this

Oh dear - I am afraid that I have to disagree (I have a feeling that we have

that it supports and answers both types of question - the 'How do I do this'
question and the 'I would like to see' question because very often they are
closely related

So I just revisited GetSatisfaction to recheck it.
Its plus side an easy to search forum. However on the downside it doesn't
limit the voting so it seems no better than the existing forum. In addition
(and uservoice has this problem too), you can't reply to comments from your
email client. My vote continues to be UserVoice + the existing google group
for questions and existential debate like this.

What several us like about uservoice is it limits you to 10 votes, which
avoids the mindless +1 every time someone makes a comment on the forum.
Effectively "its the equivalent of saying put your money where your mouth
is".
