[MLO] Re: Feature Request: Archiving Using Cloud Sync

Oh! So when you say MLO_sync, you mean MLO Cloud Sync?
And it's possible to sync an archive file with MLO Cloud Sync then?

Okay, now I'm thoroughly confused. I can't even figure out how to simply
create a start date (without a due date) via -stoday -s:today or s:today
etc., despite reading the parsing section in the help docs :\

[MLO] Re: Feature Request: Archiving Using Cloud Sync

2011-04-03 Thread Adam Lasnik
I agree with Chuck, and I'm a bit unclear on the workaround at the moment.

   - Before I signed up for cloudsync, I was sync'ing my main and archive
MLO files with Dropbox. This worked splendiforously... as long as I
remembered to close MLO on computer #1 before opening it on computer #2,
else there'd be a "conflict copy" saved. Oops!
   - After I signed up for cloudsync, I kept my MLO files in the same place
(Dropbox) and this seemed to work to my pleasant surprise... EXCEPT for the
archive files part :(. When I have MLO open on two computers and mark tasks
as complete on each, then Dropbox gets confused and saves a regular and a
   conflict copy as well :(.
   - But I'm not sure how to get around this. If I could just remember to
close my copy of MLO before opening it on another computer, well, why would
I bother with cloudsync? And if I moved the archive files to each
computer's hard drive, then I'd have completely fractured archives (some
completed tasks saved on computer 1, others saved on computer 2, etc.).
Bummer!

Thanks in advance for your advice... :)

[MLO] Re: Start and/or Due in parsing

2011-04-03 Thread Adam Lasnik
Hi Andrey,

Allow me to jump back on your old post to ask... is there any reason why we
can't have parsed: "Do blah blah blah s:may 1 d:may 31"? I kept trying
variants of this a few minutes ago ("start:" and "s:" and spaces and no
spaces...) but I gave up.

I guess I can do lead time, but I'm curious to know what the technical or
policy reason is behind not supporting a simultaneous s: and d: in parsing a
task :)

[MLO] Re: Any way to have different archive paths per computer?

2010-12-27 Thread Adam Lasnik
Someguy, DJM, thank you very much! Amusingly, it's been so long since I've
touched anything w/ DOS, that I didn't associate the word "share" with hard
drive linking / mapping.

Oddly, I had trouble getting subst to work (complained that "q: is not a
valid option"), but I did have more success with a freeware program that
maps drives, visual
subst.

Thanks again!

Re: [MLO] Any way to have different archive paths per computer?

2010-12-26 Thread Adam Lasnik
Hi DJM,

Alas, I'm still unclear as to what you're getting at. If you'd be able to
offer more specifics, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm using the same dropbox account (same e-mail address) on different
computers. The issue is that the path to my dropbox folder is different on
each computer, because I have different Windows 7 usernames. So each time I
use MLO on a different computer, I currently have to change the path to
correctly point to my dropbox folder on that computer. What I am hoping to
be able to do is somehow have the path saved per computer, not per MLO file.

Adam

DJM, thanks for the quick reply! But alas, I'm not clear on what you mean
by a "share." I do take care not to have MLO open on more than one
computer, but still my varied userpath results in having the same file be
listed under different "locations."

[MLO] Any way to have different archive paths per computer?

2010-12-23 Thread Adam Lasnik
I use MLO on three computers, and I like authoarchiving to an "MLO" folder
in my Dropbox.

Unfortunately, since my user directory is in different places on each
computer, this means I have to manually update this every time I sit down at
a new computer! (e.g., on one computer it's
user C:\Users\username1\Documents\My Dropbox\mlo\archive.ml. On another
computer, the same file is located
at C:\Users\differentusername\Documents\My Dropbox\mlo\archive.ml)

Any ideas? It's driving me batty :\

[MLO] About this MLO mailing list -- now available in Forum format

2010-12-09 Thread Adam Lasnik
Hey there,

Long time MLO user, occasional MLO-group poster here. I recall in the
past that there's been some debate on this list re: the optimal
discussion format... e-mail list vs. forum, etc.

Well, now you can have both! Give http://groups.google.com/forum a try
(it's -- yes, you guessed it -- in beta :p).

If you'd like to learn more or give feedback on this optional Google
Groups forum view, you can read the announcement from the team
responsible here.

Hope you find this helpful :)

Regards,
Adam

P.S. -- DISCLAIMER: I work for Google and have "dogfooded" (beta
tested) this forum stuff, but I'm not on either the Groups or Forum
teams (I work on Map Maker).

P.P.S. -- Neat geek feature: Keyboard shortcuts. When in the forum
interface, hit ? to see a handy list.

[MLO] Any way to specify different archive file paths per computer?

2010-10-10 Thread Adam Lasnik
I'm currently sync'ing my todo list amongst three computers (using
Dropbox). Sorry, not into Cloudsync yet due to its limitations
(manual sync only, haven't seen clear advantages over dropboxing,
etc.)

The only downside I've found with my current arrangement is that my
archive file -- also on Dropbox -- is in a different file location on
each computer (username differs in the path), so MLO understandably
complains it can't write to the archive file each time I open up MLO
on a different computer :-(.

This seems to have only started happening recently.

Thanks in advance for any workarounds you can suggest! :)

Adam

Re: [MLO] Re: Cloud sync questions

2010-09-16 Thread Adam Lasnik
Hmm. I'm curious to know the reasoning behind not having live
sync'ing (ala Google spreadsheets). Personally, I'd feel a lot more
secure not having to worry about cron jobs or remembering to manually
sync... rather, just having ML reflect new or edited tasks in the
cloud within seconds.

I'll look into cloud syncing again when an Android option is offered,
and I think I speak for many when I say that I respectfully hope you
re-evaluate #3, perhaps limiting the number of free trials per MLO

[MLO] Cloud sync questions

2010-09-01 Thread Adam Lasnik
Hi there,

Just learned about MLO cloud sync. But I'm a bit confused. I didn't
find much info on the upsell / sign-in page, particularly with regards
to what I'd be able to do with MLO on my Android phone (view tasks?
edit them? see different views? etc.)

I have a few questions in particular:
1) As noted above, what can I do w/ MLO on my Android device?
2) Other than mobile access, are there any advantages to MLO cloud
sync over simply dropboxing MLO data files? (which has seemed to work
very well for me over the last year)
3) Is there a reason why a trial period wasn't considered? I'd be
very eager to try a one-week trial, even if it meant giving you my
credit card info, but I'm not particularly keen on signing up for a
service and paying straight away (even an admittedly small amount like
$2.50) without more info and hands-on testing.

Thanks!

Adam

[MLO] Re: Designating want vs. must do

Nick, Christo, James, thanks SO much! This will take me a while to
digest, but I have no doubt that several of the nuggets will come in
handy.

And I'm already really loving the 3.0 version of this app. Even
simple things like the ability to autoformat bold my higher priority
items are useful! :)

Anyway, thanks again for the massive fodder of options to consider;
that is going on my todo list for this weekend :-)

Take care...

[MLO] Designating want vs. must do

2009-05-23 Thread Adam Lasnik

Hey there,

I have used MLO forever, but sadly only scratched a tiny bit of the
surface. Yet I'm still planning on trying / upgrading to 3.0.

Perhaps you can help me with a longtime conundrum of mine re: tasks
and MLO. I tend to have an overly optimistic idea of what I can or
might accomplish in a given day. And then there are those things that
MUST be done on or by a certain day.

Examples:

[want] - Ooo, found new site example.com, check it out sometime
(hmm, maybe I'll have time this Saturday? I'll put it on my to-do
list for Saturday)

[must] - ZOMG! Parents dropping by this Sunday. Clean place!!!
(okay, this *has* to get done by Saturday)

I'm guessing there are many ways to enter or organize tasks in MLO to
distinguish between the want to do / check out sometime vs. the gotta
positively absolutely have this done by [x] date... without cluttering
one's daily view too much.

I'm curious to hear what *you* do and how you manage this :)

[MLO] Any way to sort projects by score in todo list?

2008-10-05 Thread Adam Lasnik

Hi there,

I have given each of my projects different Importance and Urgent
settings (on the slider), expecting that the most urgent/important
projects (and their associated tasks) would be shown first in the todo
list. But alas, even when I've set the sorting to be by
Computed-score, this simply sorts the tasks in that order within each
project and does not affect the listing order of projects.

Any suggestions on how I might accomplish what I'm trying to do here?
Much thanks! :)
