Anyone else having flashbacks to IGP/CEF bugs? :) I was given the same info re: maintenance. While on the phone with them, I started to see things come back to life, but still a big mess at the moment. -Sean Sean P. We configure our DSL customers the same way you do. Static PVC, Static IP. Each user has a static IP and in 99% of the cases, we do not assign any dynamic IPs. However, I would say that it is safe to say that the majority of the ILECs here in the US provide DSL service where the IP is dynamic. Most of the time, it doesn't change, but it is very possible that the next time that the user logs in (most are also using PPPoE for the connection setup) that the DHCP server might give them another IP. As such, when we have seen our IP blocks get blocked strictly because of the rDNS entry having 'dsl' in it, a simple email to the admins explaining that we are not providing dynamic services has gotten our rDNS entries taken off of the blacklist. -Sean Sean P. We use Level3 for IP transit and transport (both DS-3 and Ethernet over MPLS (via Martini)) all over the country. As with everyone else, we saw the problems with the transit traffic out of SJC and ATL. However, our transport services were not affected at all by the problems. In fact, I just ended up sending my Level3-SJC bound traffic to LAX via Level3 which was going through the same equipment as the transit traffic which was having problems. >From Pete: > From this, it can be deduced that reducing unneccessary > system complexity and shortening the strings of pearls that > make up the system contribute to better availablity and > resiliency of the system. I agree. Granted the string of pearls is always going to be pretty long, but there are definitely is a trend from what I have seen with customers to make the string longer than it needs to be. -Sean Sean P. RE: possible L3 issues
Level3 is having problems in SJC and ATL right now and they are definitely aware of it. Any packets that I send to them die at their ipcolo switch in those two markets. Level3 in LAX, DFW, CHI, DC, NYC, SEA, DEN all seem to be running fine. -Sean MegaPath Networks > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Monday, February 23, 2004 2:53 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: possible L3 issues > > > anyone else seeing high latency via L3 , especially the west coast ? > - Keith > >
RE: T1 Customer CPE Replacement?
We have tens of thousands of Netopia's in service for our T-1, SDSL and ADSL customers. Netopia has been a great company to work with. Their devices are fairly feature packed for what is needed on an edge device. They are missing advanced routing such as OSPF and BGP, however. The devices are either driven by an easy to use menu system or you can hit ctrl-n and jump to the CLI. If the unit is under warranty, then getting a replacement for a failed unit should not be an issue. I can't say what our failure rate has been, but I can say that with all of the options out there (cisco, efficient, etc), if they had been a problem, we would not still be shipping them. -Sean Sean Crandall VP Engineering Operations MegaPath Networks Inc. 6691 Owens Drive Pleasanton, CA 94588 (925) 201-2530 (office) (925) 201-2550 (fax) > -Original Message- > From: Scott McGrath [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Have you tried a softnet depot maintenance agreement. If possible, order your T-1 from someone that actually has their own cabinets within L3's suite. I have about five DS-3s, an OC-3 and a couple of POTS lines and have never had any major problems with the installs. We've occasionally gotten the bad DLR from a vendor and L3 usually let us know within a couple of days of when we sent them the DLR that there was a problem. -Sean Network Engineering MegaPath Networks Inc.
Earthlink contact
Greetings. If there is someone from Earthlink who wouldn't mind talking about Earthlink's experience with the Cisco 1, I would appreciate it if you could contact me off list. Thanks. -Sean Sean P. Level3 has been very solid on the IP transit side. MFN/AboveNet has also been very good to us. -Sean Sean P. Thanks! We are currently seeing the slowdown on our network in San Jose. Started about exactly the time frame that you mentioned. The rest of the country (oddly) seems unaffected by this at the moment, but San Jose is getting hammered by something. Still trying to sort out exactly where it is coming from. -Sean Sean P. RE: RPC errors
This worm is amazing. I have only had filters in place for about 4.5 hours and I am already approaching 100 million matches for the deny tcp/135 across my network. Of that, only one customer has said that they needed 135 open for legimate use (probably more, but I have only heard from the one). Sean P. Crandall VP Engineering Operations MegaPath Networks Inc.
