Re[2]: [newbie] Major crack/hack attack
Just a question...how did you do this? My box is sitting on a netwrok full time which is protected by a firewall. Will this stop intrusions into my machine or do I need to set up individual level security? I have tried various ip logging programs but for someone whio is fairly illiterate to network security, the outputs of these programs mean nothing to me... RE: Re[2]: [newbie] Major crack/hack attack
I have an even better solution for being secure - my NIC still does not work ! :-) So, no one can get into my machine - 'course, I can't get out except via windoze. I know this is off the topic of this thread, but I have posted and followed various other posts and info in the mail archive on getting a Linksys/Network Everywhere NC100 10/100 fast ethernet PCI NIC to work, but to no avail. Its supposed to use the tulip driver. Any attempts at loading various tulip drivers results in a "device busy" message. This is on Mandrake 6.1 - I'll be old and grey before Mandrake sends me my 7.02 upgrade CD. I think I'll just buy another card... cheers, philomena -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, April 10, 2000 10:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re[2]: [newbie] Major crack/hack attack A side note, but related: I haven't even TRIED to make my box secure - just followed directions in various how-to's. Re: [newbie] BeOS for music?

So i would imageni that in whatever youre doing it will at sleast be more efficient, probably less resource hogging, etc. Consider also that companies like Steinberg and eMagic are porting packages such as Nuendo and Logic to Be, whereas there's been no talk of such things for Linux. Im working with some people who are using FreeBe right now, and at least at face value it appears that there are more quality sound tools for BeOS than Linux. Just my experience. . .

Jim, Just so you can make an informed ERROR read the following quote from the Users Refernce Manual for Mandrake: "it is slow in comparison with a real installation: loopback mounting of a file (this is the method used) is not as fast as a filesystem located on adedicated partition; if you have to re-install Windows, your Linux-Mandrake system will also be lost..." I have been following cable post as it's coming to my area soon. Security is a big issue with it. Following quite a few messages on it in a different area it was suggested that a firewall will do little to protect you on a cable network. The cable connection is acting like a bridge in most cases. A bridge does not route packets, it passes packets from one interface to the other. Everyone is sharing all the traffic of all nodes. A router was suggested in between you and the cable provider from one post. A little elaborate for just a simple home network or computer user. I don't have cable and have little experience with networking. I'm just monitoring the messages on it to make a decision when the time comes if I want to travel down that road. There is a big security issue with it that most don't consider. Be interested in hearing from others on the subject to get some education on how best to handle it.

Excuse Me, I am for ONE of the very inexperienced users of either Windows or Linux, I do not think there are any here that are any newer at either one than myself. I just started with Linux/Mandrake Complete v7.0 from Macmillin Software, about 2-3 weeks ago or maybe a month. Not sure at this point. I do not know how to do any COMPILING or installing of any of the software from the Linux side. I do have some experience with the installing of Linux/M because I wanted to learn as I went and find what would work for me, if what I have learned can be of any service to others then I try to respond with what I know works and with what HardWare. NO Linux/M is not to blame for all of the troubles some are having, neither is the OPERATOR or the Hardware. The one thing that is needed by any that have a question is a little background on what you have as HardWare and the error messages you received when your problem started or ended your working. These people in this group that are willing to HELP need a little of the HELP from each that are asking so they can HELP you. STOP the BLAME game and use your head and expertise what ever it may be to ask your questions and GO forward NOT backwards and complain. These people here are GOOD at what they do and are willing to HELP you so HELP them as best you can. my $5.32, don I thought I knew that I knew what I thought But now I know that what I thought I knew Isn't what I know I think I thought I knew. [newbie] Problems
Some questions, maybe you folks can help: 1. The crossover question I asked earlier...any idea? 2. I have a "freshly" installed system, so no extra software has been installed except the Mandrake 7.0 install. When I use Netscape in xwin, it will work, then suddenly will stop. I mean the page will stay on the screen but when you click on a link, nothing happens. It just stays there. Shut Netscape down, and then try to bring it back up, and nothing happens, it merely "shrugs off" the attempt. Now, if I bring up a virtual terminal and look in the .netscape directory, there is a blinking file called lock. Delete this and netscape loads fine...for a while.. Ideas, thoughts? 3. I have one 8.5 gig hd and one cdrom. I want to hook up two more hard drives, copy some data from them, and then remove them from the system. How do I get Linux to recognize them so I can copy, then remove them from the system as easily? 4. One final problem: I am hooked to my campus ethernet network. While running windows, I get tremendous throughput loading pages, doing ftp, etc..now in netscape in linux, I am getting throughput no higher than 3.5k/sec and then it starts dropping, and stalls out..goes back up to 3.5/3.6 and drops slowly to 3.0, 2.9,2.8..etc then stalls out.. any ideas? 5. I had the same problem as I thought the others did...I try to telnet to my machine from somewhere else, and it says connected...I wait for the login prompt, it hesitates and then the connection is dropped. I know I should edit my /etc/inetd file..what should I make sure it has to be able to telnet in? Thanks Valjean

Re: [newbie] Major crack/hack attack
Vic, I'd suggest you have a look at the ipchains HOWTO, it's a lot easier than you'd imagine. It's got some useful examples in section 4. You can do stuff like reject all tcp packets from the ppp0 interface except for particular addresses and ports. And stuff like reject all SYN tcp packets (which are the ones for initiating connections). As we're on the internet, the only protocols that are available I believe, are udp,tcp and icmp. XFree86 is not apm aware. This causes problems on many systems as XFree86 does not know the display has changed (via BIOS). The way BIOS saves and restores the video state varies, on some peoples laptops a suspend/resume restores to a scrambled screen (BIOS restores the video to a basic, i.e. text console state, but XFree86 isn't aware of it and still streams out at 1024x768 or similar). On mine, a suspend/resume restores the screen (the BIOS apparently saves the screen state and restores it) but XFree86 has lost "focus" and requires a console switch and back. My point is that to me it sounds like XFree86 is setting up the display but not enabling the LCD out. The BIOS then saves the screen state (and other info), turns off the ports (LCD, hard drive, ect.), and shuts off power. On resume, the BIOS restores the info, and then reenables the ports (turning on the previously off LCD). This leads me back to my previous email. Did you try the "intern_disp" option in your XF86Config file? If your up to it, try downloading the source and building a new XFree86 with the "DEBUG" option enabled. This give alot of extra info on startup and may point you to a fix. Other than that, you may be out of luck. Maybe politely email the driver author and ask for help. Sorry for the rambling long-windedness. Adrian -- - I just tried this on my old Packard Bell 486/66 w/4MB (Hey ... - shut-up! I was young, ignorant, and didn't know anything about - hardware or quality manufacturers.).

I made sure ahead of time that my stuff was completely Linux comaptable. Asus MB, Advansys SCSI, HP 810 Printer, 20 gig HD (ata off for now), G400 Video (was on the Mandrake list), Yahama CD writer, Plextror CD, USR/3com external modem, SB Live!, etc etc. Mandrake install was click click click, Real Player was typing a couple simple lines, Word Perfect Office 2000 was a click click click and it's running. No compileing, configuring lilo tweaking, this and that... Linux does not have to be complicated. It can be simple. There is no reason that it has to be anymore. If they want more hardware Linux support, they are going to have to make it for the people (like me), that don't want to become software engineers. They shouldn't have to be. That is probably the biggest thing that I feel that Linux software writers should work on this year.. AND MUCH thanks to those people that are doing it MarkP

Okay -- so, to be clear first, it works a few times, then stops working? how odd. The problem is probably not related to your /etc/resolv.conf file - it looks like X is not starting successfully. Can I assume you're able to boot into runlevel 3, if you have been looking for /etc/resolv.conf? Try this: At the LILO prompt, type "linux 3". When the boot sequence is finished, log in as you normally would (as a user). Now: $ X -probeonly 2> xerrors.txt Attach this result to your next post to the list -- it will help us help you. Next, I want you to actually go into X again, like so: $ su password: # telinit 5 Once in X, go to kppp and edit your connection settings. In the Account Setup, under the tab "IP", make sure the box "Auto-configure hostname from this IP" is unchecked. Next, make sure you have entered DNS server numbers entered for the account (make sure they're correct =) ). Then try connecting -- once connected, can you ping using IP addresses? Try pinging the IP of the domain name server. Open a Konsole, then: $ ping www.xxx.yyy.zzz Where www.xxx.yyy.zzz is the IP of the domain name servers of your ISP. Your ISP should have provided these addresses to you. If you can ping the IP, but not the domain name: $ ping www.yourisp.co.uk Then you have not put proper DNS server names in your kppp settings. I should point out that these are really separate problems (your flashing X screen and your DNS woes) but I wanted to try and help you out. Just don't confuse the two =). > I bet all those who've been on Linux for a while and are reading this are > going 'Oh s**, here we go, another thicko!! I thought it was a AMD 350 or greater. It had a problem in Win 95 because the chip was too fast for the OS - image that! 98 does not have this problem. Also just buy a nice fan to protect your chip and to make it run better. K62-333 can run at 350Mhz (3.5x100) with no problem, raise the voltage to 2.5v to stabalize it. The chip had problems with Win95a and b requiring a patch from Microsoft to solve. [newbie] permissions, kde and msec
Hello, Please bear with me, this message is not short. I started using Linux last year, with a small version called doslinux that ran from a file in the dos filesystem. It was a pleasure so I bought a second hard drive and tried out SuSE linux and Red Hat 6. I have just installed linux-mandrake 7 (the others, except for doslinux, have been taken off). However it has presented me with some puzzles: 1) During the installation process I did not select the dos partitions to be mounted but mandrake mounts them anyway. What causes this? 2) If I edit the fstab file to remove them they still get mounted. They are always called /mnt/DOS_hda# (# being the hd number). How does it do this? 3) Unlike in redhat, slakware or SuSE I find that I cannot use chmod on any of the directories or files that mandrake has by default. It has no effect the system just ignores it. Even if I set security to none (welcome to hakers etc.). I have tried removing msec but that causes kde to be almost unusable - none of the panel features and icons work, all you can do is ctrl+alt+shift to log out. 4)If I try to look at the /mnt directory with kfm, kfm dies and so do the panel features and icons. To recover I have to log out and back in again. 5) Whichever window manager I am using, I cannot write to the dos file system that mandrake insists on mounting. This I think is also what is preventing WINE from working (it keeps complaining about files being unavailable or inaccessable). I am sending this message out because I have looked in all these places and failed to find a possible cause:- /etc/fstab /etc/profile /etc/bashrc .bashrc .bash_profile .cshrc .ked/shre/config/kfmrc and the other k#rc files and am trying to trawl through the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit script for clues. I would be greatful if somebody could show me how to make mandrake as flexible as the other linuxes. All the above happens even when I log in as root. By the way what uses the variable SECURE_LEVEL that is set in the /etc/profile? Regards, Kizito

(in theory) windows nt 4 less protection, bad drivers can kill the server windows nt 5(2000) similar protection to 95 , ie flaky anything dead computer. I'm not sure how Linux handles protection but I've had a fileing system and a video driver crash the computer has still been running. manly down to bad configuration. any how the quality of the final driver usually lies with the oem and not windows/linux(unless there certified drivers), but a poor os makes bullet-proofing a driver a near impossibility, and ends up with massive drivers. > My overclocked K6-2 450 (@500Mhz) runs everything just fine. > (So does my > Overclocked Celeron366 - 550Mhz) > > "I have no irrational allegiance to any OS. [newbie] Setting up ppp
Hi all, I have just installed Mandrake 7.0 on a PII 366 MHz. It runs on a second partition (Win98 on hda1). Installing was a breeze with everything easily configured. Except dial-up. I configured a dial-up connection when I installed Mandrake, but I cannot ping any IP addresses. I got my settings (dns etc.) from my service provider. How can I troubleshoot? (I know about route and ifconfig - the output looks OK) The /var/log/messages file does not give a clue. Am I missing something? Regards, Hendrik
[newbie] Mandrake 7.0 kde themes
Does any one know why when logged in as a user (kde) in Mandrake 7.0 that the themes do not work right (the theme colors don't fill in) and why under "styles" it is stuck as "Windows Style". Everything seems to work fine when logged in as root. (permissions maybe ?) TIA Mike Julien
Re: [newbie] how do i get in
Have you an IDE or SCSI HD? Is it 1st Drive or 2nd, 3rd, or 4th? What partition did you install to? /dev/hda<--- 1st IDE drive /dev/hdb<--- 2nd IDE drive /dev/sda<--- 1st SCSI drive /dev/sdb<--- 2nd SCSI drive etc. 1st partition on first IDE drive /dev/hda1 2nd partition on 3rd SCSI drive /dev/sdc2 etc. Starting to sound like it would be easier for you to reinstall. If you do, look for packages lame sag nag and install them. Documentation of a first rate nature... Once installed you will find them in /usr/dos/LDP Read 'em! Re: [newbie] Console-Layout
DrostiI cut the below section out of the lilo.conf(5) man page. vga=mode This specifies the VGA text mode that should be selected when booting. The following values are recognized (case is ignored): normal: select normal 80x25 text mode. extended (or ext): select 80x50 text mode. ask: stop and ask for user input (at boot time). : use the corresponding text mode. A list of available modes can be obtained by booting with vga=ask and pressing [Enter]. If this variable is omitted, the VGA mode setting contained in the kernel image is used. (And that is set at compile time using the SVGA_MODE variable in the kernel Makefile, and can later be changed with the rdev(8) program.) Has anyone got any ideas? Hmn... you're reading vfat partitions, aren't you? Are they mounted correctly? Can you access them locally? What I want to know is -- is the directory for the account you're using on a "foreign" vfat partition? That's one thing... the other question -- is the hostname on the machine you're ftp-ing from also correct? I mean, does it correspond with the real FQDN of the machine? Sometimes authentication will bog down if a reverse lookup fails. What platform are you ftp-ing from? -Stephen-

If I remember correctly, these cards require special treatment (I'm not even sure they use the standard S3 server - anyone?). Which leads me to the question -- do you have all the servers installed, and is Xconfigurator calling the right one? You may need to manually hack your XF86Config file. I did, and though it may seem daunting at first, it's not so bad once you get over the initial shock. What version of Xfree86 are you using? -Stephen-

[newbie] OPL3-SA3 sound card blues (+ PCMCIA SCSI adapter)
I recently installed Mandrake 7 on my laptop, and things went mostly alright, with the exception of my sound card and PCMCIA SCSI adapter. I could not find the latter in any of the supported hardware lists (plus it's both PCMCIA and SCSI, which I presume would make it a nightmare to support), so fair enough, but what about the card? I used Lothar, soundconfig and sndconfig to try to get it to work, but to no avail, even though I gave wach of these setup utilities the exact settings that the card succesfully uses under Windows 98. By altering them at random, I got to hear the funny Linus Torvalds testing sample, but the MIDI wouldn't work, and as a result, none of the utilities would let me use the card (just because the midi wouldn't work, which I don't even care about!) Can you shed some light on to this please? I am not clueless (technical support specialist for Windows platforms by profession), but I am a beginner with Linux. Thank you in advance for your help, -Alexander
[newbie] FTP
Hi, I'm building my first Linux webserver and I'm having terrible trouble with ftp. When I ftp to the machine, I log in as a valid user and it seems to hang for about a minute, and then I get "connection closed by remote host". If I log in as an invalid user, I get kicked out straight away, which is what I would expect. If I inspect the messages file, there are several *unusual* messages before I get timed out: I get an I/O read error on the floppy (which is an LS-120), a "FAT bread failed" message, and a "cd-rom: open failed" message, always just before (in the log), but at the same timestamp as my ftp log in. Re: [newbie] I thought this was supposed to beat Windowshandsdownon stability!!
paul haine wrote: > > Funny how when Windows doesn't work it's Windows fault, but when Linux > doesn't work it MUST be the hardware. Not true, look at all of the S3 Savage 3, 4, and 2000 owners out there (I have a Diamond Stealth s540 Savage4) complaining on a regular basis about their hardware crashing Windows. To it's credit, the Stealth III works fine with Linux (no 3d accell though). Many times it is the hardware, but everyone is so used to blaming Windows that no matter what "It has to be Windows". AMD's processors 350Mhz+ required a patch in win95 in order to work. Intel had no such problem, Cyrix has no such problem. Problem with Windows? I doubt it. Windows98SE works for me. It crashes only when I try something that I shouldn't... Like running OpenGL screensavers (Savage4 drivers don't allow GL accellerated savers to function). Application crashes (read:Games!) happen because of instability of my video card. Linux never crashes with the same hardware, then again, there's no 3D accelleration for the Savage4 to crash it. My overclocked K6-2 450 (@500Mhz) runs everything just fine. (So does my Overclocked Celeron366 - 550Mhz) "I have no irrational allegiance to any OS. I use Linux because it works, and shun Windows because it doesn't." But that's irrational in itself. Windows and Linux, as we have seen, will both crash. Your Hardware configuration may be what's preventing you from running Windows well. Your not looking into that is irrational. Please don't take this as a flame, that's not what I'm trying to do here. For the record the configuration of my main Linux/Windows box is: Matsonic 6120s Motherboard w/Alladin V chipset AMD K6-2 450 @500Mhz SB Live Value Diamond Stealth III s540 Linksys PCI nic MIDIMan Winman 2x2 MIDI interface 128mb Crucial Tech ram. Generic USB Card from CompUSA (I shorted out the USB/PS2 ports on the mobo) Generic USB Mouse 3Com Cable Modem. It runs Windows and Linux quite well.
Re: Problem with X (Blank screen).
Hi. I seem to be getting closer to the solution, but I'm not sure what it is. I tried Adrian's logging trick and got the full log this time (thanks, Adrian!). However, I couldn't see anything obviously wrong. So, I then tried switching between monitors (to try out Adrian's idea of the wrong monitor being used), but with no success. Then, I accidentally made a discovery. Whilst trying the monitor swap (special hot key on this laptop), I hit the wrong key, and hit the suspend to disk key. For a moment, just before the suspend status screen appeared, the display came back! When I resumed from the suspended system, the display worked fine! This is repeatable - boot Linux into text console mode, run startx, lose display, suspend to disk, resume, et voila! I have my display back. Does the above give anyone any pointers? Re: [newbie] Samba: Windows can't log into Linux shares
Sorry if this is a double post but the original message had deleted my potion of the text. I have encountered the same problem trying to set up my home network with a couple of winblows98 boxes. In the end I had to delete the smb.comf file (after making a backup :) and creating a very basic file. At this point I went on the net for some literature on this subject. The best book I found was called Using Samba by Robert Eckstein, David Collier-Brown, and Peter Kelly. You can order or read "Online" @ http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/index.html After I found this all I had to do was follow the steps chapter by chapter right down to how to configure my Win boxes. Thanks. I did figure it out.. but it wasn't the answer I was hoping for.. I ended up giving up on OpenSSH and going to ssh.org http://www.ssh.org/ I followed their download area http://www.ipsec.com/download/ It installed, setup the host keys and "just worked" the first time. If you can't login to the other host 1: make sure that sshd is running on the host you want to login to. 2: if you have access to that host.. tail -f /var/log/messages to watch what happens when you attempt the login. good luck.. chuck "Michael N. [newbie] Thanks for all those replies...I've calmed down a bit now..and here is my Hardware List
OK.. I'm not at the PC with Linux on right now, but this is my hardware list as I can remember it. Processor-AMD K6 2 450mhz Ram- 128 meg PC100 Graphics Card-S3 Savage 8mb (Under the name 'Sparkle') Motherboard-T15VG+ Soundcard- Creative Ensonique Modem-External 56k V90/Flex speakerphone Hard Drive-8.4 gb IDE (Partitioned 5.4 gb to W98-3 gb to Linux) CD Rom-LG8320 CD Re-Writer-A Open 9420 Broktree TV/Teletext PCI card Scanner (Parallel Port) of 'Unknown Origin' (Bundled with the original Time PC..of which little rremains!!) HP 670C Deskjet Printer on a seperate(ISA) Parallel port Not 100% sure on these two, but it's running an Award Bios and I think it's a VIA chipset on the motherboard. All of these components are within 6 months of being new, except the hard drive and CD Rom which are 18 months old. Windows 98 on the main partiton runs without any major problems at all. I defrag and clean out my hard drive regularly, and generally keep the place spick and span. Linux will recognise all of these components, and installation goes like a breeze.. What has been happening is that after I've gone in and out of Linux a frew times (Sorry, can't be more specific than that-there seems no rhyme nor reason to it!)..when I try to boot up, all seems to go ok (I see all the 'OK's' coming back on the screen) but when it gets to the point where the blue logon screen comes up (Where you choose root or user and the desktop you want)..All I get is a flashing screen and a numlock keyboard light that flashes at me!! A suggestion for my problem for getting onto the web was to edit my /etc/resolv.conf file..I would be I can't find it!! I can find the /etc file, but thats it !! I've gone to kppp and put in the information it requests and I can actually connect to the ISP. The modem rings through and I get the little modem icon in the tray at the bottom right...then nothing..'Cannot locate the DNS Server' is all I get back when I try and access a web site. I bet all those who've been on Linux for a while and are reading this are going 'Oh s**, here we go, another thicko!! I really want to make this work..I LIKE a challenge. I'm 41, never had any computer training, never used DOS or even W3.1-W95 was my first o/s, never even touched a mouse until 30 months ago, so this is like learning a new language for me. I've invested in 'The Complete idiots Guide' as I did when I was new to Windows, and once I've got the basics down, like getting used to where things are in the file system, using the command prompts, etc..that will get me through to be (almost) competant!! It's just these set up problems I'm encountering. I was thinking of approaching the local Linux group near to me, but I feel that might be too much like going into the showers at school with the 'Big Boys' if you get my meaning:-)) (ok..they might laugh at me!!) Thanks again for all your patience...It won't beat me..well...not unless it's gonna cost me more money!! Cheers Andy (Manchester UK)
Re: [newbie] Wordperfect 8, and WINE
I think the number was in the magazine..check out the website, www.pcplus.co.uk , they usually keep things like that on there..I installed a package about 18 months after it was on a cover disc-I phned them up and they got me sorted, no problem. - Original Message - From: paul haine <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, April 06, 2000 10:04 PM Subject: RE: [newbie] Wordperfect 8, and WINE > > Are you trying to install it off the PC Plus disc from last year? > > > > There is a very good HTML help file on the disc which I followed to the > > letter and it installed easily..even for a 5 day old newbie like me!! > > That is the version I installed, yeah. RE: [newbie] how do i get in
have tried those, when booting from cd rom, whatever i do without initrd= i am sent through to the install screen, that being the graphical installation. if i go with initrd= and this happens now on a number of combinations including the boot disk i get VFS: cannot open root device 00:00 Kernal Panic: VFS: Unable to mout root fs on 03:01 (also on 00:00 & 00:01) so i am a wee bit confused, i also tried some of Richard Bonebrakes advice on fdisk/mbr, but i kept on getting the same thing. should i just reinstall or will i be able to get into the mandrake that is on my computer somewhere mewing all the way alex -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Jon Sent: 09 April 2000 04:43 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [newbie] how do i get in > Alex Leonard wrote: > > i have lost dual boot, and now my boot disk doesnt work, it freezes at > LIL > it wont get through to the O > > how do i get in, it is all there installed on my computer but i cant > use it. help First off, you turn off the HTML in your mail composer so we can read your cries for help... If you can boot off your cdrom, put it in and reboot. Otherwise, boot into Windoze and make bootdisk from one of the images on the cd. Once you are on your way to booting up a screen will come up asking for any parameters to pass to the kernel. linux root=/dev/hda1 initrd= Use the real partition of your root of course. If your partitions have changed (You installed another OS Maybe) you can make a "rescue" disk to allow you to boot a small version of linux and do system mantenance such as fdisk -l /dev/hda to look at your partition table and figure out where linux is... initrd= tells it to not run the install program and it is very important to remember to put it in... Once you get in rerun /sbin/lilo

What I believe would make it easier to read your posts and your questions would be to cut out the HTML and images in your messages and use a bit more punctuation in your messages. Gustavo, if you use the Sawmill window manager, you will get this effect. You have to enable them in inetd before they'll work -- many (nearly all) tcp/udp requests go through inetd first, which then passes them on to the respective service. You have to add or uncomment entries for the services you want enabled in /etc/inetd.conf. -Stephen-
[newbie] Connection errors
I have been attempting to run services such as ftpd and sshd on my system and have had no luck with it at all. The daemons are enabled, running and the correct ports are open, but whenever I attempt to connect to them I recieve "Connection closed by foreign host" or "remote server has closed connection." I have looked at the config files for sshd, (I haven't changed them,) and they the same as those on another machine that sshd works on. I've installed via rpm and I have also compiled it, but I end up with the same results for each. Thanks for any help, Emmette

Hey! How bout wandering over to http://www.mandrakeuser.org/ and filling up his forum a little bit eh! Its a bit like going to a party and not wanting to be the 1st to go in so you go around the block a few times until you see others going in and then you can too :-) And he has called it such a cute name "MUF" as in Mandrake Users Forum. Think of the possibilities eh :-) Cheers: Michael Perry. R&D. Dep. Netafim Magal. <<<>>>
