I'll try shutting it down several times. And, you're right, they'll most probably fix it with the official release...maybe I'll wait until then to do any tinkering. By the arrow I meant that when I clicked on shut off, the screen became black, but there was stillthe outline of my mouse's cursor, which I could move around on the black screen. Then, I pressed the power button and shut it down from there. Re: [newbie] Image viewer
I like GQview, but I've been playing a bit lately with GThumb, as well. Very nicely done and well-polished-- but I favor GQview because its 'Edit with the GIMP' option doesn't fire up another instance of the GIMP, as GThumb seems to insist on doing (though I'm sure, if I were more capable, I could figure out a way to get around that). What I _really_ want to try, though, and have been trying to for months, is PixiePlus. I can't get it to run on my system, either compiled form source or installed from dedicated Mandrake 9.2 RPMs, because it insists on my having ImageMagick 5.5.4, while Mdk 9.2 came with v5.5.7. It's a bit off-topic: but can anyone suggest how I might get this thing to run? It seems to be exactly what I've been looking for in an image manager (i.e., something close to ACDSee, the only Windows app I really miss). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. GQview has a slideshow option also. And otherwise you can use qiv. Run qiv -itsfru for a slideshow of all images in and its subdirectories. Remove the 'r' in the options to prevent images from showing randomly, and the 's' to prevent qiv from following the directory tree downwards. :-) Paul Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] 10.0...shut down problems
Hi Dennis, Thanks for offering your info. Well, this is a fairly new computer...Dell desktop 8300 purchased last fall. Intel P4 2.8 processor. 1 g RAM. 120 g hd, radeon pro 9800. I tried 10.0 on a much older gateway Intel 2 333mhz, 64 RAM...the same thing happened. I tried them with the same monitor...maybe it's the monitor? It's viewsonic g90f...I checked a compatibility chart on the mandrake site but it hadn't been tested. Hi, OK, I'm going to reveal what a total computer novice I am...I don't know what a you/etc/lilo.config file is or how to access it. I have to stick with using XP for all my ripping, downloading (can't get the legal non-WMA DRM site I use to work in anything other than IE - Active X, I assume) and music manipulation, as I test products for a Digital Audio Player company and need to test in an Windows environment. Part of what I'm asking is wrapped up in me just orienting myself to the concept of updating a product that has three streams over public server. It's new to me. What I'm basically trying to determine is this I'm running off the 10.0 CE ISOs right now with only security updates. So, to catch up, should I be picking the Stable branch this week (which will become the Official, I assume, when the Official ISO's are released) first to "catch up" and then switch to the Community branch? Or, does just going with the CE branch fully cover the Stable branch, as well? In either case, I'm assuming that once the 10.0 Official ISOs hit the servers, that I won't have to touch them as I'll either be caught up + patches (Stable branch) or slightly ahead (CE branch), right? Hi All, How do I sort this? No support for ATAPI with cdrdao You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao. Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all devices. This way you won't have any problems. I know it would better if this was put right.I'm using an IDE DVD-ROM 16x and a TEAC CD-W58E writer. The DVD drive shows up as ATAPI and the TEAC as SCSI drive,in the interface section. [newbie] Belkin F5D6020 WLAN PCMCIA
Has anyone had any success getting the Belkin F5D6020 v2 WLAN pcmcia card to work with Mandrake 9x or 10? I got the card for $10 so I figured I'd give it a try. I found the following page: http://www.houseofcraig.net/belkin_howto.php But the above link doesn't seem to have all the information I need. Like, what directory do I need to put the pcmf502.o file? Anyone had any success with this card and wish to tell me what they did to get it to work with Linux? Thanks. Troy Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] MDK 10 and Laptop Touch Pad
I just got a new Presario 2100. I read online a lot of success putting Linux on this type of laptop. I first put MDK 9.1 because I didn't know that 10 was released to non members. With MDK 9.1, I can tap the touch pad and it sees that as a left mouse click. When I put MDK 10 on the laptop, the ability to just tap the pad for a left mouse click went away. How can I configure MDK 10 to see a tap on the touch pad as a left mouse click? I have looked in the MCC, but don't see anything. Thanks for the help. [newbie] Image viewer
Like others on this list running Mandrake 10.0, I had a few problems with Kuickshow - there is a bug in Qt and I could not get Qt3.3 going. However I have come across a very similar picturefile viewer called Gwenview which seems to do most of the things that Kuickshow does and although it appears to have been developed for 9.2, it does work well with Mandrake 10.0. Sir Robin which kernel do you boot to? I don't know if you were asking Rory or me. I'm using 2.6 - it gave me a lot of grief at the beginning, then I hacked /etc/modprobe.conf and it worked fine for a while, except for Totem, which has never worked for me (and a fair few others) in 10.0. Last night the whole audio side went doolally, but (after rebooting) it's working fine this morning (at least KsCD is - I'm not touching Totem any more). I think it was probably a dodgy CD causing Xine to leave a zombie process somewhere (naturally I tested with a different CD, but maybe the old one left some crap in the system). What I find puzzling about 10.0 in general is not that some things don't work - I expect that, particularly since it is essentially a beta. However, my experience with Linux to date has been that things either work or they don't - there's no "works sometimes" (that's something I associate with that other OS).
