[newbie] X shutting down when in console

2002-11-07 Thread Christian Goldstein
Hiya!

Strange things happen in my Linux installation No matter what
WindowManager I use, whenever I dare go to the console via Alt+Ctrl+F1 (or 2,
or 3...) my WM shuts down for some odd reason.

Anyone have a clue whats going on?

Thanks a lot for all the input. I will be trying out the windowmanagers you
mentioned and see what suits me better. Guess I'm slowly starting to
realize that there are plenty of things that Linux offers that Windows
doesnt. Might take some time till I get used to that, tho.

[newbie] Windowmanager

2002-11-05 Thread Christian Goldstein
Hiya!

I've been using KDE for the past few days and now I feel like I could switch
to some other Windowmanager ( I was told KDE isnt the best choice when it
comes to speed and reliability ), or at least *try* to do so. I remember
using WindowMaker a few months ago, but I didn't like it that much. I mean,
it *was* fast and reliable, but I had some problems with the interface and
unless someone here can recommend a good place to get a tutorial or some
additional information, I would think twice before going back at it.

Okay, to make a long story short: if anyone could either recommend me a good
windowmanager or give me a hint on where I can find some background
information on them (WindowMaker in particular), I'd be thankful.

Thanks in advance!

Hiya!

First of all, I'm new to the whole mailing-list thing, so please don't kill
me if I do something stupid ^_^

That said, I was wondering whether anyone knows how to change the TCP/IP
settings (more precisely the MTU value) as I need to lower it so that I can
few certain websites. Thanks in advance.
