"glx" and also the open source load instructions: Load
"/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so". This worked with the open
source driver on kernel 2681-12. Any help would be appreciated in
getting this working. I have checked for an os driver (Thac's rpms) but
could not find one for the 2681-24 kernel. The new nvidia driver was

If this happens only on reboot add "nvidia" to /etc/modprobe.preload

You would have to hit cancel during the install when it asks you for the

If it comes out to a decimal, do I round up?
It doesn't.
The sectors in question are the number of sectors on the disc.
So whatever amount of bytes on a disc it will always come out
a whole sector number. The spiral of the lazer track begins on the
inner circumference and winds itself out to the outer. That
spiral is devided up into so many sectors.
So byte 1 is in sector 1 , byte 2049 is in sector 2, etc
At least that is how I understand it. I don't pretend
to be an expert.
in terminal,
dd if=/dev/scd0 bs=2048 count=n | md5sum -
(note the " - " on the end, don't leave it off.

It still comes out different. Although I think I forgot to
double-check the sectors written by cdrecord.

Then I suspect you have a failed disc write.
If you did the above right and it still gives
a wrong md5sum something is wrong
somewhere.
At this stage I would begin to suspect media next.
Maybe the choice of media/burner match is not
a good one. It does happen. I have to say that
I have never yet had such a problem, but I know
others have. I cannot say whether that is more a
problem of the user or the media. I tend to
believe the user is more at fault than the media,
but that could be my wrong assumption on my
part and until I experience the same it is very
difficult to arrive at a sound conclusion.
The dye that is used on some media is not
necessarily the best type of dye/media for your
burner. The frequency of the lazers may vary,
or the intensity of the lazer may not be
adequate for safe reliable burns, who
knows, I don't. But they are variables and
could be a cause of concern. The situation
is not made better by the device manufacturers
who in my experience don't want to suggest any
particular make/specification for their burners.
Basically it's left to the user to resolve.
So right now I'd double check what you have
just done above, and if you are satisfied it
is still not coming out right I think I would
beg borrow or acquire some different makes
of media to see if it makes any difference.

I picked this up, i don't know if it pertains to the issue:
Bad Md5sums? (maybe not)
Just burned a CD from an ISO image and the md5sum doesn't match? The CD
may be just fine... what you may be experiencing is padding which alters
the md5sum. Before throwing away the CD and cursing, try this:

   cmp /dev/cdrom ISO_image
 For example, I got a bad md5sum from my 9.2beta1 CD1:
$ dd if=/dev/cdrom | md5sum
1333216+0 records in
1333216+0 records out
e82309091ad6b44a1218dc6f33c3b058 -
It should be:
7a0479dc917d35bd822cecb558c8d432
 So, I tried:
$ cmp /dev/cdrom /ISO/Mandrake/MandrakeLinux-9.2beta1-CD1.i586.iso
cmp: EOF on /ISO/Mandrake/MandrakeLinux-9.2beta1-CD1.i586.iso
The EOF on the ISO image means that the CD image is an EXACT copy PLUS
padding. An EOF on /mnt/cdrom would have meant the CD was incomplete.

Just to prove the CD was really OK, I issued this piped string of commands:
$ dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c 682575872 | md5sum
1333162+0 records in
1333161+0 records out
7a0479dc917d35bd822cecb558c8d432 -
Got the correct md5sum... :^) BTW, 682575872 is simply the length of
that particular ISO image.

So, more generically, we can use this pipe stream:
  dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c `stat --format=%s ISO_image` | md5sum
i.e.,
$ dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c `stat --format=%s
/ISO/Mandrake/MandrakeLinux-9.2beta1-CD1.i586.iso` | md5sum
1333162+0 records in
1333161+0 records out
7a0479dc917d35bd822cecb558c8d432 -

For the purists, the size can be passed as an argument to dd like this
(not verified):

  dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=`stat --format=%s ISO_image` | md5sum

a newer ALSA version then is in your distro and have to compile the
driver from source. Also note that 'supported' doesn't necessarily mean
all functionality (like S/PDIF) is supported. You can complain to
Creative about lack of Linux support :)

Anyone have any luck installing the audigy LS ? What other
tools other than alsaconf are there to configure a soundcard ? or
could perhaps someone send me their /etc/modprobe.conf file that has
a audigy card installed.

You seem lucky:

I have created an ALSA driver for the Creative Audigy LS.
I would like reports back as to how well, or not it works for you.
The driver and instructions for installing it are on
http://www.superbug.demon.co.uk/alsa

Read the install.txt file to find out which other files you need from
that web site.

Be aware that it could crash your machine, although it does not crash
mine, but make sure you have saved any important work to disc before
trying it. E.g. sync

Thanks
James

Thanks for the info, i actually was trying the superbug info. Do i have
to make the dir ./alsa-driver/pci/emu10k1 in root or does it exist ?

When i patch patch -p1 < ../audigyls.diff.txt i get a error : can't find
file to patch at input line 8
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

and : patching file audigyls.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 26.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file audigyls.c.rej
can't find file to patch at input line 30
I did look at the hcl before buying the card and saw audigy so i though
hey magic man.

[newbie] Audigy LS

2004-07-01 Thread Marek Pawinski
Hi
I installed an Audigy LS and MDK 10 CE does not pick it up in the module
(shows unknown) in harddrake. I also try to run the config tool but
nothing happens. There are no drivers on the creative site for this.
Anyone have any luck installing the audigy LS ? What other tools other
than alsaconf are there to configure a soundcard ? or could perhaps
someone send me their /etc/modprobe.conf file that has a audigy card
installed.

[newbie] Copy & paste

2004-06-18 Thread Marek Pawinski
Hi
Anyone having problems with copying and pasting using the middle button
with KDE and Mozilla 1.6/1.7 ? Works fine with the other apps but with
Mozilla i have to select the text, right click and then select copy,
klipper does not catch it when i just highlight the text with the mouse.
Weird thing is when i shut down Mozilla copying and pasting works for a
while then stops again.

This comes off the linuxiso.org :
NOTE: The 10.0 Community Edition release is not a final release of 10.0.
The official release will be available for download in late spring or
early summer. In terms of reported stability, treat the 10.0 Community

I am not a network person but, I have two home computers running Madrake

this and where do I start?

Thanks,

Install webmin on both machines. Export your home dir on each machine
and make a nfs share as well on both the machines. Also make a /mnt/xxx
dir where the files will be shared. All using webmin. That should do the
trick.

Thanks a lot. Alsa is running. The driver the system picked up is: snd-emu10k1.
It also says: "alternative drivers: audigy:emu10k1". How can I check what's the
right driver for me? Thanks for the feedback.
Teilhard.

They should actually both work try the alternate one.

Hello:
I have three desktops and one laptop where I have installed different
versions of Mandrake. Just yesterday installed, in the largest computer,
version 10.0 Official. In my previous experience, I always got sound just

I haven't got the slightest idea of what to do to fix this problem. My
sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1.
Your help will be appreciated.

The first thing i would check is all the various volume control apps you have,
I have found the same problem myself and just checking the different mixers
and volume contol apps fixed the problem.

[newbie] Network adaptor card

2004-06-05 Thread Marek Pawinski
Hi
I have a D-Link DGE-550T network card installed. When i boot up i get an
error message that eth0 is not present delaying inialization. It uses
the dl2k driver. The D-LINK drivers on the web site are for the 2.4
kernel :-(

Once up i have to manually run the hardware config tool each time to get
the card working. I have tried modprobe dl2k, does not help. Card works
fine on knoppix and slax on bootup.

Any ideas ?
