I installed on this drive because my second drive is a raid 0 array. When I got the kernel compiled with the raid drivers I then copied the system to the raid array and added a section in lilo for it. On the array is win98, win2k, and mandrake each with an entry in LILO. THese are the ones I use. If the array gets hosed I can boot win98 or mandrake off the small drive and fix the problem i.e. re-compile the kernel or whatever. The main reason I do this is because I never could get lilo on the raid array, the 2 times I tried broke the array and lost the partitions. Or when I'd upgrade the kernel the raid driver had to be re-compiled. Jack Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

[newbie] Mandrake 7.1 DHCP problem, pleeeease help!
ok, i just installed mandrake 7.1 and have chosen to use DHCP.I have tried it both manually and via the netconf gui. The system DOES detect my NIC which is a 3com etherIII 3c509...I chose to use DHCP, and dhcpd is run, i see the link light light up on my switch as it polls my sonicwall pool of addresses (Sonicwall is a vpn/firewall/router which sits behind my cable modem and distributes my internal DHCP and acts a the gateway to the net) but mandrake always sits there for about 45 seconds then FAILS!!! uhhg... same during boot...i've read several references to changing ifup scripts and/or ifcfg-eth0config files, but none of those options worked... now, please!!, can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?!?!? and i mean step-by-step.. because im a newbie from hell... thanks.-stuck dude.

[newbie] Installing a module at startup
I've just compiled the ov511 module for my webcam. Now, in order to start the webcam I have to do a modprobe manually each time I reboot (which is often because the computer is in my room and if I leave it on at night, the fans interfere with my sleeping). I was looking around modules.conf man pages and modprobe man pages to see how to install a module at boot time. This way, I can also start up apache at boot up and have the webcam running on my webpage the instant I boot up, if I wished to. Could someone help me out here? What would be the proper way to get the ov511.o module to be modprobed at start-up?

How many partitions do I need to make with diskdrake and > what do I need to set the mounting points as? Now, I'm a newbie myself, but I somewhat grasp how this partitioning thing works. At a minimum, you only need one partition mounted as /. You can create as many as you want and mount them as any other folder. Also, I've never used any partitioning software in Linux so you have to make sure it resizes the other partition(s) on that disk in order to create your partition and not just deletes it since this may make your other OSes or programs in the OSes not work correctly.
