[newbie] refuse permission

2002-05-25 Thread Mr S Ganesan

Dear ones,
i have installed mandrake or is it mad drake?! in its latest avatar and
found that even when there is no fire wall it is refusing acceptance of
email from outsied users.
Say for example I send a mail to my machine which is running sendmail
daemon nicely and sending mails to all the recipients in the world at
large, it is refusing to accept mails sent to it. The reason given is that
my machine is refusing to accept mails with the reason, access denied. Can
any one help me how to solve this problem?

[newbie] Problem with Eudora

2002-05-07 Thread Mr S Ganesan

I have configured a mail server with the latest avatar of Mandrake and the
sendmail is running fine. However when I want to see my mails from a
Windows machine using Eudora, the server is refusing the connection and
mails are not sent or received by the windows client.
The same machine works well when using a email client in the console
itself!
Is there any problem with its sendmail? Pl help or give the address of
some one who can help.

2002-01-27 Thread Mr S Ganesan

There is a possiblity of ur cdrom being an archaic type and the new kernel
does not support the same. Try to reload the os once again and then
$ mount /mnt/cdrom
then try and access the same.
Alternatively
Search for the folder containing drivers for the CDrom drive and re
install the driver with the and then
inform me.

2001-12-23 Thread Mr S Ganesan

When u encounter a tar.gz to tgz file first gunzip it giving th e folowing
command at the command line
gunzip filename.tar.gz
then it will be shortened to .tar file with a lager size
we have to now untar it with the command
tar -xvf filename.tar
the tar will be removed and a directory created with the name of the
module. Go to that directory and run ./setup.sh which is usually the
case. Alternately read the README file in the directory and forllow the
instructions.

DEar Sir,
There are umpteen devagari fonts available for free from many sites in the
ttf, psf and other types. The problem with devnagari fonts is that you
have to know the keyboard layout since there are 3 different types of
keyboard layouts currently being used. The most common is the Remington
type.

Pl tell me which one you would prefer and I shall send you the
corresponding font as an attachment. I would suggest further that you go
for the ttf type since it is compatible for Linux as well as Windows.

Dear Sir,
I have downloaded the RH7.1 iso file from the site ftp.redhat.com
(63.240.14.62) and burnt both the CDs. These CDs are working fine in
ordinary single processor machines with IDE hard disks. But when I tried
to load RH7.1 on my dual processor 768 MB RAM machine with SCSI hard disk
and megaraid support it takes a long time to load the aic7xxx driver and
after selecting the needed softwares, the install does not complete and
the machine simply hangs without any indication of what is happening.
The same machine loads beautifully with the RH 6.2 and we have been using
it for nearly 8 months as our mail server. What is the problem with the RH
7.1 operating system?

this causes some problem with some of the HP cd burners!
I lost one hard disk of Quantum while loading the Linux MK 7.2. But with

Re: [newbie] NEED HELP SETTING UP ROAD RUNNER CONNECTION FOR MANDRAKE 7.0

2000-12-15 Thread Mr S Ganesan

There should not be any problem with the config of eth0. It might fail in
the initial stages for u may not have given the proper ip addrress etc.Pl
go to DRAKECONFIG and do the needful. Try giving the ip of 127.0.0.1 for
the loopback and 192.168.1.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0 Give ilt a local
name llike DHANAPAL and it will start working.

2000-12-11 Thread Mr S Ganesan

please edit the file /etc/inetd.conf using the gedit on the Startx or
any other editor.
Go down the file and u will find an entry pop2 etc etc and another line
below it starting with pop3 etc etc
These two lines will be commented. Please remove the comment on the line
starting with pop3 etc etc and save the file. Reboot the machine and
your pop account holders will be able to get their mails.

Re: [newbie] A Lil Time Crisis

2000-12-07 Thread Mr S Ganesan

What u have to do is check the time on the CMOS setup which u can access
before the machine actually goes up on the OS. Try pressing the DEL key
or thee F2 key or what ever it might be for ur machine as shown on the
monitor after it checks the RAM . This can be found at the bottom of the
console at the time of boot up. After u are sure that the time is
correct, The problem will be solved. On 7 Dec 2000, Altoine Barker wrote:

Re: [newbie] Mandrake 7.2 Locks up when installing.

2000-12-04 Thread Mr S Ganesan

Sirs,
I also tried to load MKL7.2 on a Fujitsu HDD of 4.3 GB using a boot
floppy made for that purpose. After initially searching for my CDROM
drive it said that no hard disk is found on the system.
I tried with many utilities to detect the hard disk and none of them
could detect it. A similar problem with Seagate Drive was solved
easily. I think there are problems with the Fujitsu Drives afterall. I
have lost that 4.3 drive and am intending to buy a sea gate hdd of 18
GB capacity. On Mon, 4 Dec 2000, Carroll Grigsby wrote:

Re: Phil / CDRW (was Re: [newbie] Linux Mandrake Version 7)

2000-11-30 Thread Mr S Ganesan

At the command prompt, # or $ please type
mount /mnt/cdrom
If the system says nothing further , then the CD has been mounted.
It will go to the CD after u give the command cd /mnt/cdrom
Again type ls -l to see the contents of the cd and so on.
To remove the CD go to the root directory bytyping cd /
Then type umount /mnt/cdrom
the computer will say nothing
type eject and presto the cd tray will open and you can pack the cd in
it jewel case!
