HI, Here is brief desc of my problem the past 3 days or so. I installed 5.3 a week ago today, at that time I did not have nor configure a modem during setup. MY question now, is can I re- installl over the old installation and have during set up the modem configured? Thanks, Will Pliler

[newbie] hey guys
Hi, I installed the LM, 5.3 from CD, last friday. For 4 days I didn't know you had a taskbar at the bottom , of the X windows. I thought the dadgum OS, was more or less worthless except to prg's, geeks etc. THEN I DISCOVERED I HAD PROGRAMS, OLE. Now I ran KPPP, and configured my IPS settings, but at the time I didn't hAVe a modem (except USB), now I put an external serial port modem on and tried to go back to KPPP, and query the modem, it said it couldn't find one. SO, how do I get my modem recognized? Make it simple, for simps like me, with no knowledge of this OS, please. AND THANKS A MILLION. Will Pliler

Hi Don, Me like you are new to this OS, and I have my 5.3 working. But when I go into the KDE desktop as a user, nothing seems to be installed, or working , apps that is. Re: [newbie] Kget -> Caitoo
Thanks steve that did it Ok, I was just expecting to see something when I typed. This is my first experience with linux. Another question. I tried following the directions to create myself a new user I had just logged into the root and have the root # prompt So how do I get to bash and create a new user? the instruction was S adduser login_name ( how do I input the name here I want not the login_name ?) and $ passwd login_name You can see I know nothing, ha. thanks, Will - Original Message - From: Steve Philp <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, May 14, 1999 4:56 PM Subject: Re: [newbie] Kget -> Caitoo > Pliler Main Unit wrote: > > > > Hi K, > > A newbie here. Re: [newbie] Kget -> Caitoo
Hi K, A newbie here. I am trying to install the linx=mandrake 5.3 and get as far a the root password, then apparently it doesn't or hasn't recognized my keyboard (nothing is even mentioned about a keyboard in the manual), and of course I'm dead in the water at this point, as you can't get past that page. Any ideas? thanks, Will - Original Message - From: Kuraiken <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Newbie Support <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, May 14, 1999 11:50 AM Subject: [newbie] Kget -> Caitoo > Anyone interested in an ftp program similar to GetRight and GoZilla - you may > have heard of kget.
