Re: [newbie] How do I install QT2?
Why don't I just install the Licq RPM? Have you tried yet? The RPM version of Licq .70.1 will not install because of module dependencies that it calls up. It wants QT2 otherwise it will not install. Any Mandrake 6.1 users out there get this thing to install with any success? Please share your secret. Your only real option is to just install LICQ via RPM and forget about compiling your own. Again, I just don't understand why you HAVE to compile it. QT2 really isn't ready for current distros of Linux, AFAIK. As I understand it, QT2 is more for "beta" purposes in getting apps ready for KDE2.0, than for "current" versions of KDE apps. --- This Message was Powered by Xcel Communications Sign up for your FREE EMAIL account today at http://www.mailroom.com Give your FAX machine an email address http://www.faxroom.com
Re: [newbie] How do I install QT2?
In that case the RPM for QT2 should just install just the same. But it won't. I want to manually compile Licq. I can't get past installing QT2. This blows. Postman. [newbie] How do I install QT2?
I am having trouble installing QT2 (qt2-2.0.1-6mdk.i586.rpm). I get a dependency problem that says I need libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 That is included in libstdc++-2.95.1-3mdk.i586.rpm So I downloaded and attempted to install libstdc++-2.95.1-3mdk.i586.rpm and got more dependency errors against the following packages... pgcc-c++-1.1.3-3mdk Netscape Communicator Netscape Navigator So how do I get QT2 installed? When I go to www.real .com I try to download the real player. It asks which OS I am using. I do not see Mandrake there. I see RedHat 5.2. That's not supposed to be compatible with Mandrake 6. I thought RedHat 6.0 was the only compatible platform to Mandrake 6.0. I installed the RedHat 5.2 version at it doesn't' launch or start up. Anyone gone to this web site to see the other options? [newbie] HTML editors (revisited question)
A few days ago I asked if there were any good HTML editors for linux. I got lots of good replies. Let me clear up my question. I am looking for an HTML editor that I can use to create and write web pages in a graphical mode. Not a raw html mode. There are too many of those out there. Netscape is the ONLY one that I have seen that comes close (for Linux). I used to use Front Page 98 but I have migrated to Linux. So are there any HTML editors out there that are NOT limited to JUST raw HTML editing? Postman
Re: [newbie] RealPlayer G2 and MP# problems
Where exactly dose one get a copy of Realplayer that actually works? I have failed to find one. I downloaded version 5.0 made for RedHat 5.2 in RPM format (only option I had to pick from). Re: [newbie] Linux compatible Modem and sound card WILL NOT work under Linux. Why???
The PnP options ARE set in the bios. I have also disabled these settings and still no luck. The SETUP command is typed at the prompt. It gives you options to setup varios things like the sound card. Perhaps you could tell the BIOS that you have a PnP aware OS? Forgive my ignorance, but I am used to using scripts, and editing files or sometimes using sndconfig to set up a sound card. What is this SETUP you refer to? Civileme The Postman wrote: My modem and sound card WILL NOT work in Linux. I have reset the bios which made everything get new IRQ addresses and such. The modem works very good untill the sound card is configured under SETUP. Once the sound card is setup. The modem seems to get less dominant and stops working. Well, the /proc/interrupts file is size zero and contains no data. Now what? My BIOS says that my modem is at IRQ 11 on COM 3 (ttyS2). Well, when I boot the computer, Linux puts out a line durring bootup that says... ttyS2 at 0X3E8 (IRQ=4) is a 16550A I don't understand how this can be possible. How can the Linux operating system see the modem at "IRQ 4" when the bios says it is at IRQ 11. The settings in Windows 98 even say that the modem is operating at IRQ 11. The bios also says that the sound card is set to operate at IRQ 5. So how could there be a resource conflict? If there is a resource conflict, why doesn't it get reported when I run Windows 98? Windows 98 says that the sound card is running on IRQ 5. That jives exactly with the bios. Windows 98 runs VERY smooth. LINUX is like a rough and rocky road. [newbie] Modem problems. Looks like a bug in Mandrake 6.0
When I install Linux-Mandrake, I set up the modem first under KPPP. The device is set to ttyS1. Then I set up the rest of my PPP seatings. I then am able to successfully dial my ISP. The modem (sportster 56K internal) works GREAT! The next step in setting up mandrake is setting up the sound. So I type /usr/sbin/sndconfig and the system automatically detects my sound card and sets it up. Then it says that the file /etc/conf.modules already exists and backs it up as /etc/conf.modules.bak. That's it. My PnP SB16 sound card is setup and works GREAT. Now the modem doesn't work after setting up the sound card. I keep getting "modem is busy" and I can't dial out. The sound card and the modem DO NOT share the same resources. I did not EVER have this problem in Mandrake 5.3. I deleted /etc/conf.modules and replaced it with /etc/conf.modules.bak and renamed it accordingly. The modem still don't work. Even after rebooting. What do I need to do to fix this mess? Postman
[newbie] Modem Problems "modem is busy"
I just installed Mandrake 6.0 last night. I tried setting up my internet stuff under KPPP. I couldn't get the modem to work. The modem is a US Robotics 56K internal (not a winmodem). It is set to run on COM3. I always get errors that say "modem is busy". I have tried all the possible devices (/dev/ttyS0, S1, S2, .) to see if that would work. I tried changing the IRQ (setserial /dev/ttyS2 IRQ :1, 2, 3, and so on..) and Still nothing. I was using Mandrake 5.3 for the past few months on this same machine until last night without a problem. All I did was put the CD in and installed. The modem worked on the first try. And Windows 98 has no problem too. This is not an upgrade that I did. I slicked the partition and installed Mandrake 6.0 from scratch. I don't see a whole lot of troubleshooting documentation about this problem (online or offline). Can anyone point me in the right direction? What do I do? Postman
