[newbie] Desktop Background program
Hi all, Quick question: when I try and manage my desktop background I get the following error message. The diagnostics is: Possible reasons: An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module You have old third party modules lying around. Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager. This occurs when I try and run the following on the command line: kcmshell background I believe that is the same command used on Kmenu-->System-->Configuration-->KDE-->LookNFeel-->Background What can I do to restore this (other than a complete reinstall). I installed KDE 3.3.2 from scratch from Thacs rpms (i.e. not an upgrade from 3.3.1 or 3.2). Hi all, When I run MCC and go to Updates under Software, I get a big list of all of the updates available. I see a lot of packages that are very similar in name except for the very ending. Hi all, I have a question about using secondary apps inside Opera. I am using version 7.54 Final of Opera. [newbie] Another Sound Issue (with 10.0 Official)...
Hi All, I've been following the other sound problem threads and can't solve this little problem. Here is the situation: Hardware: Abit nv7-133r, nVidia GeForce3 ti200, 512MB RAM, nforce chipset, Athlon XP1500+ Distribution: Mandrake 10.0 Official Problem: NO SOUND (AUAUAUAGGHHH!) I get the following error when running XMMS, etc. (no matter which sound plugin I use). "Couldn't open audio Please check that: Your soundcard is configured properly You hae the correct output plugin selected No other program is blocking the soundcard" I start up MCC and go to the hardware section. It lists my sound card as an nForce MCP Audio Processing Unit (Dolby Digital) (which is correct). The driver is the i810_Audio driver (which is correct). It states, "Here you can select an alternative driver (either OSS or ALSA_ for your sound card (Nvidia Corporation|nForce Audio Code Interface). Your card currently use the OSS "i810_audio" driver (default driver for your card is "i810_audio")" Is this a problem between OSS and ALSA? If so, how do I change/fix it? Which is better? Below my sig is the output from the troubleshooting commands in MCC. Thanks a bunch! Hi All, I am trying to get sound to work on my box. I am running 10.0CE (very nice by the way). It has solved some issues that I had with 9.2 but now I cannot get sound to play nice. [newbie] Speeding up X
Hi All, I am running Mandrake 9.2 with KDE as my desktop environment. I have a fairly fast box (Athlon XP 1500+, 512MB RAM, GeForce3 Ti200). X seems to be a little on the slow side. If I'm browsing the Web in whatever browser my mouse is really unresponsive until the page has finished loading. Waiting for Evolution to check my mail slows the mouse down in the same manner. Is there any way to improve the overall speed of X or is this "just the way it is"? Thanks! Travis Crook Visions Beyond Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Any ideas? I got it to install and it plays fine (with Mandrake 9.2, nVidia drivers). I had to manually mount and unmount the cdrom (as root) for the setup to work. Also, when it prompts you to change the cd for cd one it is really asking for cd two. Good luck and happy fragging! Travis Crook Visions Beyond Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] RAID under Mandrake
Hi All, I'm looking at getting a RAID card to put in my box. I'm running Mandrake 9.1 and wondered what would be the best card. Here is what I'm looking at so far: Promise SuperTrak 100 or 66, 3WARE DiskSwitch AccelerATA 8 port UDMA100 EIDE RAID Card, or the Promise FastTrak 66 or 100. What I would like to know is: which one is best supported under Linux (i.e. in kernel, with drivers, etc.)? which one is the easiest to install? I would like to eventually do RAID level 5 but I will start with RAID 1 and go from there. I have looked on Google to find support and on the respective Web sites but would like to know if anyone has specific experience. Thanks! [newbie] Use of Sockets in Linux
I'm a little clueless on the use of Sockets and was hoping that maybe someone could enlighten me. Re: [newbie] MK 9.0 Beta 2 Installation Error
I fixed the install problem. It was a bad burn. Now I have a different problem. I ran the install and all is well up until it runs the bootloader configuration. It starts the configuration and then just hangs. Any ideas why? I am running an Abit NV7-133, Athlon XP 1500 +, 256 megs RAM, 80 GB IBM harddrive. I currently have Windows98 SE installed (wanting a dual boot config). You may reboot your system. Is this due to a bad ISO burn? How do I check the md5sums to make sure that the download was okay? Any help is greatly appreciated.
