Any help please Technically you can use wine to run .exe under linux, but you should better find a linux version of your program. check out http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/table.shtml for a list of linux versions of windows programmes. Please notice all of the different ways to solve the problem. Who says linux is not feature rich, man I do love MandrakeLinux. Welcome to the new world geoff. : ) Yes Thanks to all of you for your help. It IS a new world for me and I'm having a ball learning to live in it. Regards Geoff I would reccomend mldonkey, it can access many different p2p networks like fastrack a.k.a kazaa, edonkey/emule, gnutella/gnutella2, soulseek, direct connect, open napster, and bittorent. Go to urpmi.org, use easyurpmi to help you set up a repository for plf, then as root type: urpmi mldonkey-gui When it is installed you can type: nohup mlnet Then you can close your consol window and use the gui. If you want, I can give you some other suggestions for making it work as well as possible. Joe. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Vincent Voois wrote: What kind of troubles do you have with DVDShrink? I usually use DVDDecrypter if DVDShrink does not succeed, when i got the decrypted vob files on HD i then use DVDshrink to reauthor or compress elements of the DVD. This is a good test to see if it operates properly at all. And burning with DVDshrink does not work in Windows itself properly either if there is any other burn application installed like Nero. (It's Nero's DVDr driver that is getting in DVDShrink's way, this may count for other installed burn apps as well) If I run it by clicking on the .exe (in KDE) I am asked to agree to the licence, I do, then the main window for dvdshrink appears, along with a little exception raised window (empty of any info which might help me solve the problem). If I run it from the command line I get this error message: Warning: the specified System directory L"C:\\windows\\system" is not accessible. Warning: could not find DOS drive for current working directory '/home/evolt/Desktop', starting in the Windows directory. wine: cannot open (null) I do have winxp installed, and wine had previously been set up to use it. I looked for the wine.cfg in /etc/wine but none seems to have been installed this time (I removed them after uninstalling wine and tried re-installing it) Thanks for any help you can provide. [newbie] dvdshrink and wine
I am trying to run dvdshrink 3.2 under wine. Installed the latest mdk rpm for wine (20040813) since I was having some problems with it using the stock wine rpm for mdk 10 (could not open the disk, a bug which has reportedly been fixed). Now it seems to be even farther from working. I am going to try some other versions to see if they look any better. Anyone successfully running dvdshrink on mandrake? Help! TIA, Joe. Anyone know anything about I/OMagic or Micro Advantage products? Thanks, Julie Owens Either, both, which do you want, stay away from the dual layer types because of price, and almost total lack of blank media, this is a run-on sentence isn't it? Charlie Edmonton,AB,Canada User 244963 at http://counter.li.org I am going to diagree here. I just bought the LG 4120B _because_ it is a dual layer dvd burner that doesnt require a firmware upgrade to write dl disks (dvd+r9). YES media availability and price is a problem currently ($10US at sonystyle.com). But it is a 12X (+r) burner (or 2.4X dual layer) which works very well under mandrake 10. I paid $130 CAD here in edmonton at OEM express (roughly 100US). I expect that in a year I will be able to purchase reasonably priced dual layer disks that will allow me to make 1:1 copies of dvd's, or store 8.5gb of data. As a side note I have installed the newest version of K3B from cooker which now supports dual layer burning. I read this review which convinced me this was the one to get: http://cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=234 Joe. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Asa Rossoff wrote: From: "Mikkel L. I have used it a couple of times to boot from CD on machines that do not support booting from CD. (I think this is the same one as I have - the bookmark is on a different machine.) If you do not have access to a Windows machine, let me know and I will make an image of the floppy that you can copy to a floppy using dd. Another alternative is Smart Boot Manager (http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/), which I use for this purpose without any problems. It has other features as well. Asa Thanks for all the help everyone. I used the oldbios.exe floppy to boot mandrake 8.2, which is installed and working fine. :) Joe. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] boot floppys and mdk 10 on old machine
I am going to be installing mandrake on an old machine (no bootable cdrom) at work tomorrow. Problem: left the mandrake 10 (rc1) disks there. Can I make a boot floppy from another version (say 10 beta 2, or grab the one from the mirror for 10 final)? No high speed internet here so I dont want to download the whole final version tonight. Should I even be using 10 for an old machine (p133, will only be used to play music with xmms using blackbox)? I have 8.2 and 7.2 laying around here if they would be more appropriate. [newbie] XFree 4.4 RPMS for MDK 10?
Ok, I heard and read a little about why 4.4 would not be included in mandrake 10, but... I need it. The sis driver for my crappy onboard sis630 chip doesn't have DRI enabled in 4.3. I have tried unsucessfully to install it from XFree's website. Does anyone know of where I could find rpms for the final version of 4.4? Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
