Re: [newbie] Best Softwares

2004-01-26 Thread fifner the dragon
Hi,
I had this problem and tried this solution. Many things came back, even if they were
moved around a little. But there is still a really important one missing, "Configure
your computer".

How do I get this one back? Or how can I access it from a console?

Thanks in advance,

Fifner

The problems this far are sending it over ftp and compressing it.

When I right click a folder in konqueror and choose to zip it there is a problem with
the non enlish characters. They are replaced by other wierd characters. I don't know
what program is used. When I tar a folder there is no problem. Text editors, word
processors, browsers etc are no problem...

I would like to have all the volume, length, weight, and number systems set to
swedish. But the user interface I do NOT want in swedish. Do I have to leave
one at en_US? And in that case, wich one?

And the swedish letters are not enough. I need the icelandish ones as well. Is
there a multi language setting available?

Thanks,

Thanks a lot. I think this is getting closer to the solution since it's not only gftp
that has a problem. Zipping a file is also a problem (but not taring them).

In the i18n I couldn't find anything that looked like a character set. What I
have is:

SYSFONTACM=iso15
LC_TELEPHONE=sv_SE
LC_CTYPE=en_US
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_MONETARY=sv_SE
LC_ADDRESS=sv_SE
LC_COLLATE=en_US
LC_NAME=sv_SE
LC_PAPER=sv_SE
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE
SYSFONT=lat0-16
LC_TIME=en_US
LC_MEASUREMENT=sv_SE
LANG=en_US
LC_MESSAGES=en_US
LC_IDENTIFICATION=sv_SE

Should I add an entry, and what should that be?

Thanks,

Hi,

my acer monitor broke down and I replaced it with a viewsonic one. The change was not

Can I have linux autodetect the monitor just like it does when I do a fresh install.
Or can I manually set what monitor is used?

Hi, how nice to relize that someone noticed that I was gone for a while. I was stuck
in windows doing a VERY slow download of music on direct connect. It took a couple of
months.

Now I am allowed to use dcgui on the direct connect hub I use. So I have no more need
for windows.

Cheers everybody,

Re: [newbie] connection sharing using static ip

2003-02-13 Thread fifner the dragon
Before I start blocking the 2000 I want to start sharing the connection using static
ip.
When I run the wizard it automaticly configures the sharing to use dhcp. This makes
the old static ip disappear. When I use dhcp on the win machine I can connect to the
internet, but I can no longer ping the old ip of the linux machine.

Can you have some machines connect using dhcp and some machines connecting using
static ip to the same linux-box through the same nic?

Thanks,
Fifner

[newbie] connection sharing using static ip

2003-02-11 Thread fifner the dragon
Hi,

I just configured my connection sharing using drakgw in the mandrake control center.
When it finished I got the message "you may now share internet connection with other
computers on your Local Area Network, using atomatic network configuration (DHCP)."

Hoow do I set it up to have the internet connection use the static ip numbers from the
other machine? I have only one computer as a network client and it has a dual boot.
Win 98 should be allowed to use the internet, but win2000 should not.

Thanks in advance,
Fifner

I set permissions for a folder to allow both group and others to write to it.

Everytime I restart the computer I have to log in as root and set the permissions

How do I make the permission changes permanent?

[newbie] CD gone in linux

2003-01-08 Thread fifner the dragon
Hi,

I took my cd player off the computer and started linux without it. After that I put
the cd player back and restarted linux and the cd was not there. In konqueror it just
says 0 Items - 0 Files - 0 Directories.

When trying to install software it asks for the cd3 but just spits them out.

How do I get my cd player back?

Hi,

I installed Mandrake 9 and Mozilla keeps hanging the system. The only solution I have

Has anyone else had the same problem? Or maybe someone has a solution?

By the way, where in the file structure can I find Mozilla?

[newbie] accessing win2000 partition without samba

2002-09-28 Thread fifner the dragon

Hi everybody,

I´m new here. I read somewhere that I can access my win2000 box without running
Samba. It would be very easy to set up, I remember ,but it would not allow windows to
access anything from the linux box.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Is it possible to read or read/write ntfs partitions using Mandrake 9?

Cheers,
