It is dependant upon the logrotate scripts themselves. Have a look. Normally logrotate drops all the services temporarily to archive and recreate the log files. This issues an IF-DOWN and IF-UP command to your network devices, disconnecting you from your ISP. Check to see what time it happens. I'll bet it occurs between 4:00am and 4:30am every day. The fact that it happened when you installed 8.0, might just be coincidental. Hello: I have a peculiar problem. I leave my pc pretty much connected to the internet 24/7. Since installing LM8.0, it will disconnect every 24 hours, almost to the second. To get around it, I have configured my dial-up to re-dial when disconnected. At first I suspect there is something in the cron files, which is causing this event.
