Still can't get it to let me back on the net. :-( linuxconf is asking for 'primary name + domain'. I don't understand what to put there. My ISP is sonic.net - that doesn't sound like my 'domain', is it? Or is it the local-net workgroup name, which is different? It would seem as though one needs to specify the workgroup somehow to get the local net to work. I notice that LinNeighborhood will NO LONGER allow me to enter a 'domain' if I try to 'scan as user'. I guess I need to better understand this domain/workgroup/hostname issue. What goes where? -- Thank you, rikonamailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Linuxconf "just worked" from cli for me, def under pekwm and i think in icewm, too. Had some weird off the screen help files... Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? If you read man linuxconf it explains the switch you need to use. It's kinda like text mode but with menus and all that. I tried running it on a different X server, like :1.0, 2.0, it wouldn't go. -- Joehill Registered Linux user #282046 Homepage: http://nodex.sytes.net 14:14:28 up 1 day, 12:23, 1 user, load average: 0.16, 0.03, 0.01 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? As I was rummaging around in my new 9.1 upgrade, I noticed LinuxConf on the GUI menu - it seems to run OK there, but not onthe cli. you can set it in linuxconf (run at cli) and it also explains it a bit... Click on the networking section. eric On Tue June 3 2003 11:00 am, rikona wrote: > Hello, > > I'm still trying to understand the ramifications of these variables in > networking, mailing, and ??? [newbie] How/where is HOSTNAME & DOMAINNAME set?
Hello, I'm still trying to understand the ramifications of these variables in networking, mailing, and ??? There seems to be a lot of help in the 'bits and pieces' documentation, and I can get parts of the picture from this, but - is there something like a broader overview of how these parts go together? For example, one place where EVERYTHING related to or affected by, say, hostname, is described? It's something like a top-down view rather than a bottom-up view, if that makes sense. Or maybe inside out? :-) -- Best regards, rikona mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
