Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
Alan I have no idea where the RPM is located. I did the Automated install of 7.1. When Roman started posting about the Reader I thought I would see how much trouble I would have installing it. I put Disk3 from Mandrake 7.0 Complete (this disk has the Reader and 4 PDF books) into my drive. When I opened the CD, just for the hell of it, instead of trying to install the Reader I clicked on one of the PDF books. Lo and Behold, A window opened and there I sat reading the book. Disregard the above. I double checked myself and I Was Wrong. I was reading the book in kghostview. The book I clicked was Using Linux spec. ed. and is the only the one that will display in that viewer. So it looks like I will need to install AR afterall. Sorry for my error. Don't understand...why you're having so much trouble... I installed it with no problem I have a copy of the tar file on my server Alan Shoemaker wrote: > > Charlesreally?!? If you are running 7.1 then the Adobe Reader is installed during installation of 7.1 Charles - Original Message - From: "Eunice Thompson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, June 18, 2000 6:31 AM Subject: Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz > Roman Bysh wrote: > > > > Hi Alan, > > > > Thank for pointing this out. > > > > Roman > > > > Alan Shoemaker wrote: > > > > > > flupke wrote: > > > > > > > > You uncompress the archive : > > > Romanif that's the adobe acrobat reader, why don't you > > > install the one on disc 5 of your powerpack, it's in an rpm > > > and is easy as pie to install? > > > > > > Alan > > > > > > Romanator wrote: > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > I may have asked this before but I cannot for the life of me install > > > > linux-ar-405.tar.gz > > > > I would like to install Adobe. Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
Hiya.. untar the file with tar xvfz linux-ar-405.tar.gz or use the Archiver under XWindows. change to the path where it is installed. With tar it installs it to a subdir in ur current dir. type ./INSTALL and the install will start. There is a default installation dir. U can change it but remember where u install it. After installation is complete change to the dir wher ar is installed and go into the bin dir. Use ./acroread to run it or make a shortcut in Xwin. Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
I've installed it but I don't think I've integrated into Netscape yet. in a terminal: 1) tar xvzf if you're not already root 2)su; then ls to find a directory called ILINUX 3)cd to that directory- (there is a Readme.txt file, that younshould have a look at) type ./INSTALL and it will ask you some questions. I had to make a directory- /usr/local/Acrobat4 because that is where it installs to. I basicaly just stopped after I got it installed, leaving the browser integration for another day. Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
As far as I remember, you have to write ./INSTALL with uppercase letters. HTH Flupke On Fri, 16 Jun 2000, Roman Bysh wrote: > I think I used the wrong commands. Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
I think I used the wrong commands. I downloaded it to my root directory. Next, I typed in tar-xvzf linux-ar-405.tar.gz A new directory named lLINXR.install was created. I could see the install script with dark monitor. Every time I changed to this directory and typed in ./install it would indicate that the directory or file is missing. Re: [newbie] Installing linux-ar-405.tar.gz
You uncompress the archive : tar zxf linux-ar-405.tar.gz then you go into the newly created directoy, su to root, and execute the installation script : ./INSTALL (or is it ./SETUP???) Then, the rest should be self prompting.
