Re: [newbie] No NUMBER lock? Solved
I discovered the problem is not the version of numlock but the file to invoke: In Mandrake 7.1, the command to enter was "numlock". In Mandrake 7.2 it is "/usr/X11R6/bin/enable_X11_numlock" (without the quotes). The 7.1 kde autostart folder is no longer functional. The new autostart folder in 7.2 is ~/.kde/autostart. The kde2 in Mandrake 7.2 overwrites the root window so that commands like xsetroot no longer take effect. etc., etc. Is there somewhere where one can read the changes made so as not to waste days trying to devine what Mandrake did here or there? Thanks Paul - that worked for me - I hadn't paid much attention to the numlock not being active on startup, but it started bothering as I read these posts. philomena On Tuesday 21 November 2000 06:00 am, you wrote: > On Mon, 20 Nov 2000, Goldenpi wrote: > >Number lock keeps resetting. Re: [newbie] No NUMBER lock?
I have 'numlock-1.0-10mdk' which came with my Mandrake 7.2. It does not work on my Mandrake 7.2 installation in kde. I also installed the numlock from the 7.2 set of CDs and it made no difference. Numlock did work in 7.1 Something in 7.2 seems to have broken it. Re: [newbie] No NUMBER lock?
The way I got round it was to install or make sure the numlock RPM was installed (can't remember which now) Then I went into the Autostart folder :- /home/.kde/Autostart and created a new Application - set permissions to RWX for user and "execute" is simply /usr/X11R6/bin/enable_X11_numlock This switches numlock on when KDE starts On Monday 20 November 2000 20:42, you wrote: > Number lock keeps resetting. Re: [newbie] No NUMBER lock?
(Note that this is straight from the man page for setleds.) For X, you need to edit the file '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/types/basic'. The last section of the file is the "KEYPAD" section and looks like: type "KEYPAD" { modifiers = Shift+NumLock; map[None] = Level1; map[Shift] = Level2; map[NumLock] = Level2; map[Shift+NumLock] = Level1; level_name[Level1] = "Base"; level_name[Level2] = "Number"; To set NUMLOCK on by default, simply change every occurrence of "Level1" to "Level2" and change every occurrence of "Level2" to "Level1" (without the quotes). Then restart X. Note that the behavior of the NUMLOCK light will change as well (i.e. the light will be lit when NUMLOCK is OFF and will be dark when NUMLOCK is ON). - Original Message - From: "Goldenpi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 20, 2000 2:42 PM Subject: Re: [newbie] No NUMBER lock? > Number lock keeps resetting. I don't believe it's a KDE2 problem. It hasn't been important enough to me to get it going. I gave my 7.1 CD's away, so I'm not sure, but I believe you'll find a 'numlockrpm' on 7.1 CD's or from a 7.1 mirror.
