If M$ started doing good work, it would propel their monopoly indefinitely. Ya, we'd have great work and less reason to look elsewhere, but it really would eliminate any competition. The only way to have competition is to first eliminate the monopoly, and for that reason, M$'s sloth and incompetence is good thing because they're working to eliminate themselves. Having two really great OS's makes for great competition, and brings out the "dark horses" - pushing technology to become better and OS's to become better - but I doubt that game will happen. Microsoft is too "stuck in a rut" - and we all know what a "rut" really is - it's a grave with both ends knocked out. Microsoft is too fat'n'happy to create something for a change - although they're currently scared of loosing marketshare, it'll result only in lower prices, retrenchments in Microsoft departments and more advertising. -- Thu Jun 12 02:10:01 EST 2003 02:10:01 up 2:08, 3 users, load average: 0.12, 0.23, 0.17 - |____ |kuhn media australia| | /-oo /| |'-. |http://kma.0catch.com | | .\__/ || | | || | _ / `._ \|_|_.-' |stephen kuhn| | | / \__.`=._) (_ | email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | - linux user #:267497 linux machine #:194239 * MDK 9.1 & RH 7.3 Mandrake Linux Kernel 2.4.21-11mdk Cooker for i586 - * This message was composed on a 100% Microsoft free computer * America works less, when you say "Union Yes!" That's funny - well, at least they're choosing an antivirus program that actually works...and works well...(McAfee and Symantec don't care if they work - they care about selling product not fighting bugs). It's sad to think that they're just going to bundle bandages in their efforts to create a secure system - and it's not really "creating" is it? They're like "The Borg" - they assimilate programs into their OS and call it their own "feature" - aka Adaptec/Roxio? IF Microsoft were smart (duh) they'd just scrap all their code, start FRESH with a CLEAN SLATE and write and OS from the ground up that works from the beginning instead of constantly needing bandages and patches. -- Wed Jun 11 08:55:01 EST 2003 08:55:01 up 3 days, 18:46, 3 users, load average: 0.07, 0.15, 0.20 - |____ |kuhn media australia| | /-oo /| |'-. |http://kma.0catch.com | | .\__/ || | | || | _ / `._ \|_|_.-' |stephen kuhn| | | / \__.`=._) (_ | email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | - linux user #:267497 linux machine #:194239 * MDK 9.1 & RH 7.3 Mandrake Linux Kernel 2.4.21-11mdk Cooker for i586 - * This message was composed on a 100% Microsoft free computer * (CBG attends the Movementarians mass marriage ceremony) CBG:(to new bride) So, do you enjoy comic books? [newbie] OT - M$ dumping XP to combat Lindows?
"Microsoft is giving TigerDirect unheard of discounts on Microsoft software, allowing them to sell Microsoft Windows XP for just $50 to all of their customers who have purchased LindowsOS computers. TigerDirect is paying less for some copies of Microsoft Windows XP than even the largest Microsoft customers like Dell. Besides radically discounting their software, Microsoft is agreeing to spend a lot of marketing dollars to advertise their products through TigerDirect and more specifically to past LindowsOS computer buyers. Additionally, Microsoft is paying TigerDirect to collect market research on LindowsOS computer purchasers, to figure out other ways to counter this threat to their monopoly..."
