On a last resort, try XF86Setup. It's an old way of setting up X-Windows.
Not used anymore except for extreme cases (with the exception of Slackware
where Xconfigurator doesn't exist)

Try typing XF86Setup (careful..., case sensitive) from the command line.

2000-03-21 Thread Eunice Thompson

Roger,
When you install in expert mode, you have to make sure that you install all
the Window Managers (I think that's the term),when it gives you that list of
packages you want to install.
This happened to me also. The easiest way I found to correct this, was to
pop the CD back in, go through the installation process again and do an
Upgrade, instead of an install (make sure that you've still selected the
expert mode and either normal or development for the type of install).
It won't change any of your partitions,
but it will allow you to add more packages.
When you get to that stage, just uncheck each (+) to see what's there, and
select which packages you want/need. I think it's called "xwindow manager"
or something like that.
Hope this helps

[newbie] Odd install problem --- did not set up X

2000-03-21 Thread Roger Bird

I performed a new install of MD 7.0-2 last night on my AMD K6-2 350 w/
ATI xpert@play, 5.1gb, 96mb.

I did an "Expert" install. It detected my nic and I correctly
configured @home. (cool!) But the DrakX (i think that is what the
install program is called) completely skipped over the "configure X"
portion of the install.

I did instruct the install to install all X-Windows programs.

Xconfigurator, xconf, startx, ... none of this works (yes I ran them as
root)

So now I have just regular text mode. I need to get X working.

What is the easiest way to do this? I want to use KDE. On a previous
install, x worked fine and installed all the great icons in KDE. The
only problem was my nic was not being detected, so I did a re-install.
Not the nic is fine, @home is fine, but X does not work.

Please help.

Thank you.
Roger
