I heard that Epsons are linux-friendly.
Re: [newbie] Printer recommendations
Dear Lanman and friends: I HIGHLY recommend Okidata's Okipage 10e LASER PRINTER. I got it from http://www.buy.com for nearly half price ($260 instead of $400). Brand-new. Toners are also only half-price, around $16 (sixteen dollars!) and last 2,000 pages (that's two thousand except the first toner which comes free with the printer, which lasts only 1,000 pages). Prints black on whitel ONLY. If you don't need color, I (let me repeat) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this printer for its quality, reliability, etc. And, it is supported out of the box by LM72. Don't waste your money on deskjet printers when you can get a laserprinter that's superior and only a few dollars more. Actually, when you consider the toner, it's much cheaper. And you can use both standard xerox paper and laser quality paper. This GREAT printer was recommended to me by one of our gurus, Ramon Gandia, and that recommendation speaks for itself. I have had my Okipage for nearly two years now. Flawless! Benjamin P. S. I had absolutely no problems with the HP930c Deskjet, if that helps. Hooked it up, ran the Printer utility, and Bingo! Done. I had to replace my Lexmark Z11 because it wouldn't work in Mandrake even with the cooker drivers. So I got a Canon S450. It works but the formatting gets lost. Tired of messing with it. So what printers can you guys recommend that is easily compatable and that prints the way it should? TIA, -s

HP has a couple that can be had inexpensively. They're usually quiet, fast, and in the long run LESS expensive because you get much more use from the cartridges. (at least that's been my experience). They usually work well as postscript printers too. Why not check prices at CNET or some place like that, and, of course, check the linux compatability sites before plunking down your cash. [newbie] Printer Recommendations
Dear friends: I think my Epson Stylus Color 600 is on its last leg. Could you recommend an affordable printer for my system? I'd prefer a Canon, i.e. a printer as quiet as a Canon. The Epson makes a lot of noise. Another thing: I print only in BLACK. No need for color. Thanks so very much.
