WhoaI am really feeling dumb now. The Win98 HD is the master so I would need to set Linux as hdB in lilo. I switched them around. Shoot me. Re: [newbie] Setting lilo to dual boot 98 from seperate drive???
Windows does not have to be on the primaey master to boot it just has to think it is. The first thing you need to do is to verify that Win will boot . To do this change the setting in your BIOS so that it boots first from hd1 instead of hb0 (some list them as C and D). If Win boots all you need do is use liloconfig to add Wins boot record. If Win will not boot then either the boot record has been damaged or the partition type is not set as primary, active ,bootable; this could have happened if you used DriveImage or a like program to copy Win to your 2nd hd. Re: [newbie] Setting lilo to dual boot 98 from seperate drive???
Aaronit's not really a secret. You need to change the first line of /etc/lilo.conf to point at the / partition (or /boot partition if you have one) instead of the mbr. For instance if the first line of /etc/lilo.conf ended in hda then you need to change it to hda1 if 1 is the / partition. Then run lilo as root to write the new info to the new location. Re: [newbie] Setting lilo to dual boot 98 from seperate drive???
Aaronthe way my system works is: 1. I use BootMagic as a muli-os boot manager on a scsi system. 2. BootMagic is installed on a small dos partition (6.22) on sda1 3. There are 2 Linux systems on sda5-7 & sda8-10 4. There's a win98 system on sdb1. 5. BootMagic is able to detect and boot the win98 partition.
