This doesn't uninstall Mandrake at all. All it does is cut off access to the
GNU/Linux partition. To properly uninstall GNU/Linux (any flavour), you
should delete the GNU/Linux partitions (including swap partitions) and create
new ones using Windos filesystems. Otherwise, GNU/Linux will still be there,
and you won't be able to access those partitions from Windows. That's just
space wasted.

Re: [newbie] Uninstall Mandrake 8

2001-07-30 Thread D. Hoyem

If I'm reading this right you want to uninstall
Mandrake 8.0 and you want your mbr back the way it
was. If your going to install other Linux Distro's
then all you need to do is what several people have
told you and that will reset your mbr. As far as
uninstalling Mandrake 8.0 you don't really need to do
this if you are going to install another Distro. That
distro should use the same partations that you have
set already.
I hope that this answer's your question.

Not sure what you're saying Aldo, ie, "As I have to check other
Linux Distributions".  If you don't want LILO installed in MBR, you
should just boot your W98 start floppy and run 'fdisk /mbr' from a DOS
prompt. That puts your mbr back like it was without uninstalling LM.
Then you can still use your Mandrake 8 boot floppy (you did make one,
 right?) to boot Mandrake Linux.

There's also ways to use LILO to boot multiple distros, tho I
haven't. Search MandrakeForum. I believe there's a good article there
in the archives by Civileme for doing this.  Also, LILO doesn't have to
be installed in mbr, see 'man lilo'.

1. Boot from windows boot floppy
(make one at a friend's PC if you don't have one)

2. at DOS prompt, type FDISK /mbr

Really folks , this one comes up so often we should put it in the URL or
something :-)
