Re: [newbie] Way OT Celeron vs Duron
It wont work AMD CPU´s use socket 462 Intel CPU´s use Socket 370 there is also a voltage difference you will just F&*( up your cpu and MB Cheers Pigdog On Friday 08 Aug 2003 1:11 pm, Marc wrote: >I am putting a couple of machines togather from a pile of left over > parts. hate to disappoint you. there's no way a Duron will work on a motherboard where a Celeron was removed from. ;-) - Original Message - From: "Marc" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 20:11 Subject: [newbie] Way OT Celeron vs Duron >I am putting a couple of machines togather from a pile of left over parts. > This is probably common knoweldge but it is from a time before I did much with > computer hardware. > Will a Celeron socket 370 processor generally work on a moutherboard > where a socket 370 Duron processor of similar speed was removed? >Sorry to get off topic but I have been Googleing around for quite a while > and have been unable to find a answer. RE: [newbie] Way OT Celeron vs Duron
Not a chance.. AMD and Intel stopped being pin compatable back in the Socket 7 days. Celeron is basically a Pentium with less cache.. Duron is a similarly reduced athlon.. They will not be pin compatable, and you will probably do damage to one or both trying it. rgds Franki >-Original Message- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Marc >Sent: Friday, 8 August 2003 8:12 PM >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [newbie] Way OT Celeron vs Duron > > > I am putting a couple of machines togather from a pile of left >over parts. >This is probably common knoweldge but it is from a time before I >did much with >computer hardware. > Will a Celeron socket 370 processor generally work on a moutherboard >where a socket 370 Duron processor of similar speed was removed? > Sorry to get off topic but I have been Googleing around for >quite a while >and have been unable to find a answer. I am writing this from a Celeron 300A (300mhz) with 384MB ram that has been running at 464 mhz 24/7 for many years now.. never crashes and never runs hot. (and it benchmarks faster then a PIII 450 too thanks to the front side bus and cache on the CPU.) Having said that, with a duron and a celeron of the same clock speed, the duron is a ton faster.. and some of the durons were very very handy for overclocking as well. (I have heard of stable cases of a 400mhz increase.) rgds Franki Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I solved all my problems and for a few bucks ebayd a MOBO for my homeless CPU and a CPU for my brainless MOBO along with a few sticks of memory. I guess I will just end up with 1 extra machine built from my piles of used parts. But I should be able to find homes for them. This is starting to get a bit interisting. I live near a small town , population around 500 with other small towns around it, the kind of place where everybody knows what all is going on around town and in the surrounding area and I seem to be 1 of the only people around that can build or repair a computer for 20 miles around. It's kind of a part time job or hobby at this point. People around town are are starting to talk about their ML boxes and people are starting to ask me about ML. I build at least 1 computer a month sometimes a lot more that is a linux machine for someone around here. Thats not a lot until you figure in the small total population. Another year or 2 and Norfork Arkansas and the surrounding area may have the highest percentage of Mandrake linux users in the US. The effect seems to be snowballing and I am enjoying seeing Microsoft getting their butts kicked on a local level. LOL Thanks All Marc KM5KW Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Way OT Celeron vs Duron
I am putting a couple of machines togather from a pile of left over parts. This is probably common knoweldge but it is from a time before I did much with computer hardware. Will a Celeron socket 370 processor generally work on a moutherboard where a socket 370 Duron processor of similar speed was removed? Sorry to get off topic but I have been Googleing around for quite a while and have been unable to find a answer. I figured some of you folks would know.
