Robin, Actually, that looks pretty good. I've got a bunch of windows open right now, but I'll try it again after I finish what I'm doing and can shut down X. (I started XFdrake, and in short order I have a place where I can select an alternate video card. Don't see VESA or framebuffer (yet), but do see generic VGA and that's worth a try. Thanks very much! Randy This may not be what you want, but try running XFdrake in text mode as root after install. You should see a menu asking you to choose monitor, graphic card and resolution there. Is there a way to select a different video card than the one the system has recognized during this process? How? (I would like to try the framebuffer, vesa, or generic vga driver instead of the SiS driver, but I haven't found an option to choose an alternate.) Re: [newbie] XF86 set up in non graphical mode
i had a same problem. you should to chose step "i can set up your computer to automatically start X upon booting would you like X to start when you reboot" to NO than you can see the console after reboot. and you can reconfigure /ete/X11/XF86Confiug or XF86Config-4 otherwise i don't know how to boot. i fixed to XF86Config. [newbie] XF86 set up in non graphical mode
Well, once again, trying to get my monitor settings right in KDE control, I managed to have my screen go freaky. Does anyone know how to reconfigure XFree86 from the command line? I've read about XF86Setup, but darned if I can find it in Mandrake 8.1. Thanks for any help. Andy Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
