Yes.  Or at the very least, it is the IP that you currently have leased
from the dhcp server.

[newbie] finding my ip

Is the ip address that shows up when I run ifconfig my real ip address?
I connect via adsl i get assigned dynamic ip's, but how do I find out
what my real ip address is right now?

ifconfig should reveal your 'real' address, when you are connected to your ISP

Hi Paul,

Yep, you can use ifconfig to determen your IP address. The first IP address
of the network interface connecting to the desired network is your IP
address.

The "inet addr" in /sbin/ifconfig is the real IP address for that particular
device.
