There are many Jabber servers around that support all the majoy protocols, hell, I even run one ;-) This way you can use whatever you want, how you want. In case you're wondering, I've recently converted my father to Linux, and he has the habit of being online whenever family want to phone home (usually because he's forgotten to log off). If I have an IM he auto-logs into, we can send him messages to disconnect, or even just chat without him having to remember to log-in to the IM service. Cheers! John. If you want to use Yahoo gaim is the one to use. AFAIK Kopete doesn't yet support Yahoo IM. An entymologist in Georgia is threatening to sue Microsoft over false advertising in Windows 2000. "According to Microsoft, Win2K contains 63,000 bugs," he explained. "However, the shrink-wrapped box I purchased at CompUSSR only had one cockroach along with some worthless papers and a shiny drink coaster. I got ripped off." The entymologist hoped that the 63,000 promised bugs would greatly add to his insect collection. "I had my doubts that Microsoft could deliver 63,000 insects in one small box for only US$299," he said. "However, with a company as innovative as Microsoft, the sky is the limit. Or at least that's what I thought." He then asked angrily, "Where do I want to go today? Back to the store for a refund!" Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? John: The IM solution only works if Dad monitors his monitor even when he's off-line, but it won't be effective if he is elsewhere when someone needs to contact him. How about installing a second phone line for his modem? The monthly charges are pretty low because all it needs is basic local access -- no long distance carrier, no call waiting, no caller ID, none of that jazz -- just POTS. Of course, for a few bucks more, there's always ADSL or cable. -- cmg Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
