Here's what I did:

1. Open the url you want as your home page (I think this technique would even
allow you to have multiple urls in separate tabs, though I haven't tried it).

2. Resize the window to the size you want saved, if you don't like the default
size (I found it too small for many of the web sites I visit).

3. Go to menu item Settings > Save view profile "webbrowsing"...

4. In the dialog, ensure that "Save URLs in profile" is checked. Also, if you
did step #2 above, ensure that "Save window size in profile" is checked.
Don't change the default selection of the "webbrowsing" profile.

5. Click the Save button.

The next time you open Konqueror as a web browser, you'll see the url(s) you
saved, with the window size you want.

You can also change the "filemanagement" profile to save changes to the use of
konqueror as a file manager (what you get when you open the Home desktop
icon). And you can create custom profiles if you want, for different
purposes. It's a pretty nice piece of semi-hidden functionality.

Or, simply surf to what you wish as your start page and go to settings/ save

Thanks, Andy

Hi,
There may be better ways but this worked for me. Right-click on the KDE
desktop, select create new>file>link to location (url). In the dialogue
box enter the URL of the site you want to open and a name for the link.

Hey Presto! A direct line to whatever web page you want to access in
Konqueror. And you can have as many of them as you want.

Cheers,
Graham

I have been playing with Gnome more than KDE, but there is an icon on
the Konqueror toolbar that will enlarge the font size of the displayed
page. It is in the shape of a magnifying glass with a plus sign in it.
Also, did you try in Konqueror -Settings>Configure Konqueror>Fonts?
There is a place to specify the minimum font size and what font you want
the browser to use to display text. Don't get discouraged in the
learning process. I have spent almost a year in getting going, but for
me the windoze Mulidysfunctional Edition was good incentive to try
linux. Once you are a little familiar with it, you won't miss
microsoft! HTH.

that is a puzzle. I am trying to recreate the problem and now can not get past
the Mandrake welcome page. Looks like something needs editing for a perminent

RE: [newbie] "Start" page of Konqueror?? Success Once only

2005-01-15 Thread Andy Yankovich
Well, Dennis, the instructions you gave DID work, but for only one time.

After a complete shut down, I attempted something I never did before. At the
KDE 3.2 flash screen, I clicked on the globe icon and went directly to the
start page I have been trying to get.

However, I tried to recreate that success five more times and could not
recreate it once. I tried only restarting and booting from a totally shut
down system. Couldn't recreate that success. Don't know why.

I did what Dennis suggested and it did not work. My result was a bit
