[Openstack] Stepping aside announcement

2018-01-29 Thread Edgar Magana
Dear Community,

This is an overdue announcement but I was waiting for the right moment and
today it is with the opening of the UC election. It has been almost seven years
of full commitment to OpenStack and the entire ecosystem around it. During the
last couple of years, I had the opportunity to serve as Chair of the User
Committee. I have participated in this role with nothing more important but
passion and dedication for the users and operators. OpenStack has been very
important for me and it will be always the most enjoyable work I have ever done.

It is time to move on. Our team is extending its focus to other cloud domains
and I will be leading one of the those. Therefore, I would like to announce
that I am stepping aside from my role as UC Chair. Per our UC election, there
will be no just 2 seats available but three:
https://governance.openstack.org/uc/reference/uc-election-feb2018.html

I want to encourage the whole AUC community to participate, be part of the User
Committee is a very important and grateful activity. Please, go for it!

Thank you all,

A brief email to inform you about our schedule next week in Boston.

In addition to interesting presentations that will deal with
Fog/Edge/Massively Distributed Clouds challenges [1], I would like to highlight
two important sessions:

* A new Birds of a Feather session ``OpenStack on the Edge'' is now
scheduled on Tuesday afternoon [2].
This will be the primary call to action covered by Jonathan Bryce during
Monday's keynote about Edge Computing.
After introducing the goal of the WG, I will give the floor to participants
to share their use-case (3/4 min for each presentation)
The Foundation has personally invited four large users that are planning
for fog/edge computing.
This will guide the WG for the future and hopefully get more contributors
involved.
Moreover, many of the Foundation staff already planned to attend and talk
about the in-planning-phase OpenDev event and get input.
The etherpad for this session is available at [3].

* Our regular face-to-face meeting for current and new members to discuss
next cycle plans is still scheduled on Wednesday afternoon [5]
The etherpad for this session is available at [5]

I encourage all of you to attend both sessions.
See you in Boston and have a safe trip

oAUC will have the voting rights

- Increase the number of members from 3 to 5

- Formal recognition of Active User Contributor (AUC)

The proposal is here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QmLOeseAkjBWM_TXsUeKBErNaSHnuZp81II0T71ARfo/edit?usp=sharing

This proposal will be presented during the next Board of Director meeting on
Monday Oct 24th in Barcelona, Spain.

Feel free to send us your comments. In a nutshell UC will have a very similar
organization and structure than the Technical Committee (TC) but with very
different goals and mission.
You can find more details about UC mission here:

Re: [Openstack] [Openstack-operators] User Survey - Deadline Feb 24th

2016-02-09 Thread Edgar Magana
After reading a bit on both pages, I think Juniper created their own mess here.
I am cc one of the contrail PMs to get some clarification.
As far as I know, the code is exactly the same but the ‘enterprise' one
includes support from Juniper team. Anyway, maybe too late to get it fixed now.

Edgar,
You're certainly in a position to speak intelligently about it, but I was also
under the impression that there is a commercial [1] version that is separate
from the open source version. There is even a FAQ [2] (4th question down) on
the OpenContrail site about it. Perhaps you could clear up the confusion?

I am planning on 8 PM so people will have time to finish the booth crawl. The
place will depend on how many people want to go. It will probably be a sports
bar or something similar since that's worked out well the last couple of times.

If you are interested, please fill out this quick RSVP by the end of the week
so I can get a rough estimate of the number of people I would need to make a

The post-script is a function added by the metadata service in nova and

Hi All,

Sorry: a couple of months ago I have been asking for help on openstack +
quantum + OpenVswitch plugin installation

I received a very good suggestion, see below the answer ( thanks Edgard!),
and I carefully followed a guide for a single-server installation (I was
waiting for my new hardware):
https://github.com/mseknibilel/OpenStack-Grizzly-Install-Guide/blob/OVS_Sing
leNode/OpenStack_Grizzly_Install_Guide.rst
<https://github.com/mseknibilel/OpenStack-Grizzly-Install-Guide/blob/OVS_Sin
gleNode/OpenStack_Grizzly_Install_Guide.rst>

well, everything works, from keystone to horizon web interface EXCEPT for
the fact that I cannot ping or ssh my VMs (I only see the console log of the
web interface!)
NOTE: I did three times the same installation of two different servers and
carefully checked all security groups permissions, and the result is always
the same!

Apparently I have no trace of errors in the log or error messages when
launching nova/quantum commandsŠthere MUST be some parameter missing!

Can anyone help?

BTW: now I have much more hardware where to test also a multimode
installation but I wonder if this could really solve the problemŠ.
