It is important to understand that English is the most common language, but we 
trying to make people aware that they can translate from any language they 
know. Just check article accuracy. Some are translated long ago and not 
updated, other can be translated partially, just a part that was interesting 
to translator. 

Also you can use Google translations to create basic translations that can be 
improved by people that know English.

Oh thanks Jos that's sweet of you to say so. Though of course I was
just building on the ideas already there, rewriting a bit so I'm
probably getting more credit than I deserve :)

Also whoever did the Wiki page with the call for papers did a good job
of outlining the key areas the conference covers so I used that as a
guide.

I'd be more than happy to do some work on that, do you want to start a
pirate pad and make it collaborative too? I have limited technical
knowledge so that way of working is great for me.

That's okay, you have to start somewhere right? Please tell me your
opensuse login names so i can give you access right for el.opensuse.org.
Please get in contact with the wiki list and read through

You should:

1. Translate www.opensuse.org to greek

The source of the webpage is in SVN. You can check it out here:

svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/opensuse/trunk/infrastructure/www.o.o/

simply copy the english directory (en) to the greek directory (el)

cp -av en el

and then translate the included html files. In the end you add an option
to the file languages.html for greek. If you have done all that you can
send the differences (svn diff) to opensuse-...@opensuse.org
If you need any help with this don't hesitate to contact the opensuse
web developers on the same mailinglist, they will help you!

2. After you have completed 1. you point opensuse.org.gr to
www.opensuse.org/el

So, now that the domain opensuse.org.gr exists, what do you suggest to
do? To redirect it to the official site, the wiki? We' ll probably do
it, if thats they way everybody works, and ok, it would make things
easier for us, cause we' ll don't have to admin another joomla
webprotal.

I have re-arranged a few things, and think this is (almost) ready to be put on 
news.opensuse.org.

Soon the conference program will be ready, and that will of course also trigger 
a news article.  So this is a good start for the stream of news we should be 
churning out for openSUSE conference!

Anyone has other ideas or is willing to do something to get openSUSE conference 
to be in the news? Once the conference program is out - it'd be good if we 
could write a bit about the talks and workshops users can expect at the 
conference. It's not difficult work - take the description available, seek 
around to add some info and/or contact the author to tell a bit more about what 
he/she is to talk about and - dang, a new article. You can count on me and a 
few others here to review such an article so it doesn't have to be perfect. 
Germanglish, Spanglish, Itaenglish or other variations of english are no 
problemo for us :D

Any takers for that?

Translating a wiki is a group effort. If you wan't to take charge of
that you just have to say so. Especially if the person who started it is
gone :)

Autonomy from what? From the openSUSE project?

We are an open source project where many people jointly work on a lot of
things. On the distribution, the wiki or on spreading the word on
conferences. We also work together on our web-pages. So if you want to
contribute to the openSUSE projects web presence it makes little sense
to keep your contributions outside the project on your own page. You
should instead help to make the official pages better for the reasons i
stated above.

[opensuse-marketing] Request for promotional material for events in Thessaloniki, Greece

 Hello friends,

The LUG I'm member will participate to the International Trade fair in 
Thessaloniki, Greece [1]. It will be 11-19 of September 2010. You're 
welcome to visit my country. We'll setup a small area with computers 
with some games and we will cooperate with scouts of my city, for the 
parallel event Kids and Fun [2]. With this area, we will have a booth 
where we will inform parents and everyone who's interested about FOSS. 
According to their first page [1], they had 25 visitors for the 
whole fair last year.We expect minimum about 1 Adult visitors and 
over 25000 kids and teenagers to our event.
Since it's Software Freedom Day during the fair period, we discuss with 
them to have a small booth dedicated to this special day for us. Since 
it's in discussion along with other parallel activities our LUG (and we 
as openSUSE ambassadors will be there), we didn't write it on the 
official SFD page, but we plan to do it until Thursday when all of this 
will be official.


As ambassadors, we'll organize the openSUSE team (with Kostas Koudaras 
[3] who applied for ambassador) of the LUG to be present there.
For that reason I ask you to send as many as cds/dvds you think we can 
have and also any other promotional material you can provide us. 
Language isn't a problem since there will be from other countries as 
well (the page [1] say 20 countries). Although we will translate and 
give away some kind of general information Brochure or Flyer about 
openSUSE in Greek.


Also, on 1-3rd October 2010, we'll participate in an open event (Park 
Festival) about the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Scouts but 
this time we will have also a 2 small talks one for the kids and one for 
parents-teachers and a tent over the entire course of events. The talks 
will be about the FOSS and will present 2-3 distributions 
(openSUSE,Ubuntu,Fedora). I'm thinking to present L-i-f-e to 
professors-parents. For that event I was told that we expect about 2000. 
Kostas Koudaras [3] will help me organizing a small booth for openSUSE. 
So we also need  promotional material.


At the International Trade Fair (11-19 of September) and the Park 
Festival (1-3 of October) we will have mostly kids and teenagers so we 
already planned some games around FOSS and openSUSE but due to the long 
period of events if anyone has a good suggestion about a game so that we 
could keep their attention for more please tell us about it...


For Software Freedom Day we are planning on visiting a junior High 
school (we will announce which school in a couple of days when it'll be 
official from both sides) where we will have the time to make an 
introduction of openSUSE (after our LUG's presentations of FOSS) to the 
students and at the end of that we arranged to have a meeting with the 
school teachers to introduce them openSUSE L-I-F-E and maybe make 
arrangements for installing it on a class for testing it.


We expect on taking great amount of experience from all this and write 
everything about it on the wiki, along with any kind of problems we may 
find in our path.We will try and expect on expanding the Greek openSUSE 
community to another level.


We can combine all three events on sending us promotional items, to 
eliminate costs.
