On the contrary, Intel's performance labs recently discovered that
IBM's JVM was the fastest current option. Has to do with better heap
management.

Hey, this is quite helpfull. We encounter the same problem with shutdown.
Do you know of any disadvantages (performance) with the ibm jdk?

Orion shutdown problem - some info

2000-12-21 Thread Simon Peter Nicholls

Shutdown is fine for me under IBMjdk 1.3.
Using Sun's jdk1.3, Shutdown message is output - but it doesn't shutdown.

I think I saw a post on theserverside.com (and I'm guessing they are
using the Sun/blackdown code set), that sockets were being reset rather
than closed under certain conditions.

My guess is that this is stopping a clean shutdown and so -shutdown
force is needed. Hope that helps people that are tearing their hair out
at the moment(or beards!).

Can someone at evermind check this out?

My system is mandrake 7.2, Sun jdk1.3.0_01 (unless I want to shutdown...)

Cheers and Merry Christmas everyone,
Simon.

Hi there  ,

In  your  command  don't
specify  the port no. , then it will work.

e.g. Use the command like following
 [root@ns orion]# java -jar admin.jar
ormi://localhost admin 123 -shutdown

it seems you are using the http port to send the
admin commands to. That is wrong, it should be orions RMI port, which is set
in some RMI.XML file. The default is 23791

following exception
[root@ns orion]# java -jar admin.jar  ormi://localhost:8081 admin

error: java.io.StreamCorruptedException: Caught EOFException while

Any ideas??
I am brand new to Orion so if there is an obvious source of documentation
relating to this, my apolgies that I haven't spotted it yet.
