Re: Review of Rockbox now available

2005-12-13 Thread Michael Lang
Hi Andre, you wrote:

> What are the differences between the h100 and h300 iriver players?

The 300s are not just audio but also photo and video players. Their
display needs more power, so it normally turns itself off after no key
has been pressed for a couple of minutes. When one then presses a
button, nothing happens, only the display wakes up. One has to press
the button a second time to execute the desired function.

There are quite a few other differences, to many to mention here. The
300 players for instance can load their internal battery via the USB
port.

I don't know.

Sure, the final version hasn't been released yet.

Panasonic RX29

2005-12-13 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

In a recent post, Ian Wells mentioned that there was a review somewhere
of the Panasonic RX29 boom box. As it sounded potentially interesting,
I searched for this unit and found it selling for only $70 American.

But I really need to locate that review. So if Ean or anyone else on
this list knows its whereabouts, or, better yet, would repost it, I
would be most grateful.

Sincere thanks in advance.

Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER

2005-12-13 Thread Tyler Wood
Yes. For some reason, I had been having trouble using real player. It seems
that if you mention that your visually impaired/blind (which I had
experemented with), they seem to ignore you. On the other hand, when I
complained without saying I was blind, they responded immidiately and,
although a little better support was found, they're atitude didn't change
much. I stil prefer winamp or windows meedia player, simply because for one
thing, real players volume is the same as jaws (or window-eyes) which tells
me I need a new sound card, and it seems that if you exit (or minimize it)
it gives no info what so ever about where you are.

Shame realy as their are some very very nice sounding Real streams out there.

To experience fully what I mean and you'll only appreciate this if
you have a broad-band connection, visit

have a listen to the stream there with Real Audio, I'm yet to hear
anything like it.

Oh come on, it's not that bad, sighted people can read. The firmware
upgrade is still in the general menu. You only need sighted
assistance the first time.

I take it that the firmware update isn't any longer in the menu once rockbox
is in place. Does that mean you need a sighted person every time you want
new features they put in there? The trouble gets to be finding people to do
it, and strangers can't be trusted.

Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER

2005-12-13 Thread Ian Wells
Well its not only important from a blind persons
point of view but its also important if you say
wish to switch to a headset, a Ni Fi system
connected to another sound device which it is in
my case as I don't use software speech of any description etc.

Re: CHANGING OUTPUT SOUND DEVICE IN REAL PLAYER

2005-12-13 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Ian,

Unfortunately, this is NOT possible, in Realplayer. I complained about this
(quite vigorously) to Real.com, several months ago. I explained why this
facility is often quite important to the blind and others using adaptive
technologies. Their only response was a form email, stating that they
consider all suggestions; but they gave (and have given) no indication of
whether they ever intend to implement this suggestion.

For this reason, I have ceased to use RealAudio web streams (in favor of
other formats), wherever possible, and I urge others to do the same.

Blessed Be,

RE: Review of Rockbox now available

2005-12-13 Thread André van Deventer
Hi

What are the differences between the h100 and h300 iriver players?

I got the impression that the rockbox for the iriver 300 series is actually
moving much faster than the one for the h100 series did?

And is rockbox for the h100 series still being improved?

Andre
