Re: recording my voice

2008-02-03 Thread Steve Pattison
Hi Mark,

A very good program for recording calls on Skype is Callburner available
from www.callburner.com. The authors of CallBurner have made some
efforts to make the program accessible. You can try CallBurner before
you decide to buy it or stop using it.

Regards Steve.

I found in the entertainment section on my computer a facility to record
my
voice. If I wanted to record another voice such as over skype, what
could I
use? The record facility I found only recorded my voice clearly, you
could
only hear the other person faintly.

Just in case you haven't already found this, from the page

player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full
unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several

RE: converting text to daisy format

2008-02-03 Thread Christopher Bartlett
There is also a program called Eclipse Writer that will help you in
marking up text, Word, even .pdf files and allow you to build DAISY
books either as structured text or audio, both of which could be put
on the Stream. I have done a little experimenting with this program,
and while it is a tedious pain to mark up a long text, it is quite
simple, and the program help will teach you everything you need to know.

I just took a look at the online site, and Eclipse Writer appears to
be a bit simpler to use.

Re: converting text to daisy format

2008-02-03 Thread Gary G Schindler
I don't know how well a text file would convert to daisy format. you would have
to
convert it to an html document. you could make an MP3 of the text, but you
would
have to have several little MP3 files to correspond with the headings in the
html
file. then you have to write or make a smil file so the MP3 and html file are
synced. there is another file that has to go in the folder, another html file
but
with a different extension which I can't remember what it is. if you had the
proper html file, you could simply rename it with the save as in an html editor
I
believe by putting the proper extension in the filename. everything would have
to
be placed in the same folder. there may be a daisy generator available, but I
don't know how it would work.

RE: converting text to daisy format

2008-02-03 Thread Dean Martineau
I don't know if this will give you the results you want. You will need to
mark up the text file according to their fairly clear instructions. Once
you do, though, you will get back, depending on what you request, either a
Daisy book in one of three formats or an mp3 file.

When I put a txt file on a sd caard in the victor reader stream, I can't
jump from one chapter/section without first moving to the end of a chapter
and puting my own bookmark in. Then I just move to that bookmark. But to
get to that start or end of a chapter or end of a sectin, I must move by
screen or paragraph until I reach the locaation for inserting a bookmark.

Daisy books usually mark the chapters, sections etc. I wasn't sure if I
could actually make this happen or not. I have some text for my students
that are in ttxt format on cd. I can move them to a bookport or victor
reader stream. But when looking for a given place in the book, the student
must get there in a very slow manner. I guess maybe after this first year of

using the books, the bookmarks would be in the bookport or victor reader
stream for next year. So that is why I was wondering. The publisher doesn't

have the text avilable in daisy or I would bought them as well as the txt
copies.

Hope I diidn't go on too long with my explanation.begin

Re: converting text to daisy format

2008-02-03 Thread Dan Thompson

You'll hear both beginning and end times, that "r" is for region names
generally but you can adjust the end time by typing in a new one.

Re: recording my voice

2008-02-03 Thread Bob Seed
CBC - Radio Canada Selects Gefell M930 for On-Air Broadcasting Vancouver BC:
Recently, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation in Montreal went through an
extensive series of tests in search of a new standard on-air broadcast
microphone for both the French and English language radio stations. The
Gefell M930 compact cardioid mic was selected.
According to CBC Montreal Radio Operations Manager, Gaston Robitaille: "We
recently redesigned many of our studios to create a 'round table' format
whereby often times, as many as 6 microphones are on at a given time. As
such, we needed to find a mic that could transfer the natural characteristic
of an individual's voice while providing sufficient pattern control to
eliminate bleed from one commentator's voice going into adjacent mics, a
problem we were experiencing with our old Neumann U87s.
"Early on, we tested the Gefell M930s and were impressed by the compact size
and natural tone. It had that 'Neumann sound' yet also seem to be very
uncoloured. Before deciding, we ended up testing over 30 other microphones,
going full circle and coming back to the Gefells. The pattern control,
compact size and their ability to handle huge transients without distortion
made them a natural. We now have over 25 mics in action and are planning to
get at least as many more in a near future."
The Gefell M930 is a 48V powered compact cardioid condenser with a full 1"
diaphragm that features a DC to DC optical power bridge that provides 80
volts to the capsule while reducing self noise to a mere 7dBA. The compact
size coupled with the triangulated pedestal eliminates body refractions and
comb-filtering to produce a more stable and controlled polar pattern. The
large full 1" capsule provides greater sensitivity over small capsules, an
advantage when trying to capture more detail and personality from a voice.

information.

Re: recording my voice

I think that your first priority should be to determine what you are going
to use this microphone for, that is to say if you are going to use this
microphone for in studio production voiceover work it might not be the exact
microphone that you should be looking for. According to the specs it is an
excellent microphone for music and live concert work. The bottom line here
is that electrovoice makes a number of microphones for various applications,
and is widely used by broadcasters world wide. They are a little pricey, but
that is to be expected for a professional microphone. There are less
expensive microphones for home use that can do a fairly good job as well.

Hi ray, the way you did it is the right way, including highlighting
by control shift end. my problem is, that the two tracks come out of
the speaker, and when i tab they jump to the other one. it doesn't
always happen, but i can't tell whether it is going to be alright
till i come to save the tracks, as i can hear them separately as i
record, one sounding alright, and the other one in the other speaker
going backwards. thanks for trying to help. brian.
