The talk about preamps reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask. I
have a turntable and a preamp which I need to use to get vinyl into a PC and
I'm getting 60-cycle hum. The preamp was an old Radioshack model. I can
use a filter to kill the hum, but 1. is that a reasonable thing to do in
the first place, and, 2. what would people suggest as a reasonable cost
method to not have the hum at all?

Btw, be looking forward to hearing about the software.

Yep, will be doing that this weekend, have some lost 45’s bought from Vinyl
Australia to sample and I’ve got the old Aiwa Turntable prepared and ready,
have one of the computers here connected to the line-out of the Rotal Amp
which has a truly superb Fono stage built-in.
I have both the Mac and Windows versions of Vinyl Studio Pro so it will be
interesting to see which I get better access to, the Mac or the Windows
version, at this early stage they both seem rather equal.

I have been buying and using the MDR-7506 headphones for years; they are a
fine choice. The ear cups on the older models did not hold up well but
that's not true of the newer versions. One good thing about the sony
MDR-7506 headphones is that they have a heavy-duty cord (it's one of those
spiral cords); the drawback is that the cord is somewhat heavy and makes the
headphones feel a bit heavier. Also, they can get uncomfortable after 5-6
hours of continuous use.
But I agree with the model; they are a really good headphone choice for a
very reasonable price. Trust me; I've tried a lot of headphones.

Yep I know how some people feel, some of the stuff talked about here is
way beyond a budget and I have to admit to stretching the finances

Well perhaps the review linked to here may be your anser to the problem

If you are looking for a program on the pc side that is a good editor I
use golswave. Despite opinions to the dcontrary, you can make just as
tight edits in goldave as ou can in sound forge. I think a lot of it is
simply what hyou are used to in terms of an editor. Jonathan Mosen, for
example, who used to be a big proponent of sound forge, told me recently
that on the pc side he now uses studio recorder for most of his pc editing
needs. Now studio recorder doesn't have all the bells and whistle that
sound forge does, noise reduction, ability to use plug-ins, etc, but for
just plain editing it apparently works very well.

The other problem here also seems to be blind loyalty - pardon the
pun -, people buy a product - in this case Sound Forge -, they've spent
so much money on the product so therefore they're hoping beyond hope
that everything will work as it did in Sound Forge 4.5 and they're not
looking to try anything new even though times and software are a
changing and that's unfortunate as those people miss out on anything
that actually works.

Sony Creative Software have never been interested in accessibility and I
doubt they ever will be whereas other products have come along where the
developers are interested in accessibility and take note of user
feedback, there's a lot of competition out there.

to pick the option presented by Windows when it asks me what I want to do
such as play cd in WMP, etc. I can pick that and then the f keys let me go
wherever I want, but I resent it. I'm playing with the trial copy. I don't
want to buy the full package with lots of software I don't want to use. I

prefer to avoid that. My old radio stuff doesn't seem to get anything
useful. So it seems like I'm going to want access to a good source for that

Gary,

There are two approaches to ripping CD's in Windows Media Player of which
I am aware. In another note, you were
referred to the "Ripping" tab of the options dialog. On that tap, you can
check a box that will rip CD's
automatically when you insert one. It will check first to be sure it was
not already ripped. You can also specify
what type of files will be created on that tab. This works good if you
are ripping a bunch of them at once.

If you don't want to rip automatically, make sure the associated checkbox
is not cheched. When you insert a CD, you
should be focused on the "Now Playing" tab of Windows Media Player. If
you are not on that tab, pressing CONTROL-3
should bring you there. Once the CD is playing, you should find a "Rip
CD" button by tabbing around that dialog.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Dane, since you've been supplying us with quite a few helpful tutorials, may
I ask, if you happen to have written up something on the setting up of EAC?
I'd appreciate any help since I never really understood how to use that
program propperly, which is why I got back to CDEx and Nero.

Thanks in advance and take care,

results?

Hello Alexandra:

Older CD players normally do not play MP3 files, newer ones do. CDs have
large files with the file extension .cda and when you copy them with Exact
Copy, they are copied to the blank CD in the same format. In format .cda, a
song normally occupies over 30 Megs, sometimes 50 Megs or higher, so only
15 or 20 songs fit in a CD, for it has a capacity of 700Megs.

When we use a program to "rip" songs from the CD, that normally refers to
converting them to a different format. Format can be "lossless" as is the
case of for instance, the files with extension .wav, which retain the same
quality and also occupy lots of room. There are many audio file formats,
including some less known that are also losseless and occupy about half the
room of a .wav, but there is always the trade-off of where to play it.

Normally when you rip songs from a CD, you convert them to the MP3 format,
that is with file extensions .mp3. The MP3 files occupy much less space and
thus you can fit many more in a CD, perhaps 100 or more songs in a single CD
with a 700 Megs capacity.

MP3 files also come in different qualities, depending on bitrate and sample
rate. Most people say the "CD quality" is 128K bitrate and 44100 sample
rate, but while the sound approaches the quality of a .cda it is not quite
the same. It is a trade-off, but MP3 files are very common and play in all
modern CD players. You could use higher bitrates, up to 320K and they will
sound a little better still, with larger file size.

In summary, when you "copy" or "rip" a CD, you must select "Audio Cd" or
"Data CD" and the former refers to .cda files, the latter to the format of
your choice, MP3 being the most common.

Now, if you want to rip CDs into "Data Cds" in formats such as .wav or .mp3,
the simplest program to do it is called "Singe." It will do either CDs or
DVDs automatically, it determines what it is from its size, and it is very
easy to select the files to put in it and burnthem. It is available from
the Jaws Users website, I believe.

Regards,

Humberto

Hi List,

I hope someone can help me how to solve this problem.
I'm using the same CD-DVD-Burner on two different windows 7 machines with
Nero Burning Rom to burn audio CDs.
With one burner the CDs are fine, with the other the results won't play on
many audio CD players, admittedly, they're older models, but from the one PC
they play fine, from the other they don't.

I'd appreciate any ideas concerning that problem.

Thanks in advance.

Take care

Thanks so much! It is indeed easy to install, and easy to set up. It's
completely accessible. I just ripped my third CD with it. Well, my fourth

It works fantastically.

Hey Guys,
I tried to install and use two CD rippers today without success.
First, I tried to install the latest CDEX. After three tries, I finally
found a site that actually let me download it. The first one said the
page could not be displayed, the second and third had download links, but
nothing happened when I hit them. One even said my program was
downloading, but my IE11 didn’t download anything. Finally, I downloaded
the file and tried to install it. It wanted to install three third party
programs, AdAware, Tune Up Utilities, and (I think) Pluto TV. My Window
Eyes 8.4 could find no check boxes to select whether to not install
these, so I just clicked Next and figured I’d uninstall them after I got
CDEX successfully installed. However, when I hit Next after Pluto TV came
up, it asked me to select an option and an Okay button came up. I reached
an impasse at that point, since I couldn’t see how to select the option.

So that was the end of trying to install CDEX.
Then I tried VLC Media Player. Installing that was easy. Then I brought
up the instructions on how to rip CDs with it that Dane so thoughtfully
provided a while back. However, not all those controls in setting up the
ripping process are accessible for me with Window Eyes 8.4. For example,
I cannot check the CD check box. It just won’t change from Unchecked no
matter how many times I hit the space bar. I can’t even get it to play a
CD that’s in the tray. I know it plays because I can bring up Winamp and
play it. The problem with Winamp of course is that it doesn’t know what
it’s playing anymore, so I’m trying to find a ripper that knows the
tracks.
I looked up Exact Audio Copy, but it looks intimidatingly complicated to
me frankly.
So, anybody got any suggestions for an ACCESSIBLE ripper that I can try
that’s not overly complex, but that will produce reasonably good results.

I’d really appreciate some advice.
Oh, how I miss being able to do the job with Winamp!

I'm an iPhone 5 user. I use Siri and Voice Over for most of what I do with
a phone--send text messages, make calls. I upgraded to 8 because of an
article much like the one in this message which I have just read most if not
all of. I'm now using 8.0.2. I have had enough problems with VO and Siri
that I re-installed 8.0.2. Some slight improvement after that but not much.
The problem I have in particular is the inability to place a call or send a
text message reliably. To me, that, and not the bells and whistles, is why
I got the phone. Whether my experience is typical I cannot say. Nor can I
say whether it's because of my 16-G iPhone 5. But, unless you really need
the bells and whistles, I'd be somewhat cautious about the upgrade. Hype is
nice, but I've already seen the Jetsons world and I can't use a device
because of hype.

Re: digitizing cassette tapes question

2014-10-07 Thread Gary Petraccaro
First and foremost, you need to listen to those tapes and see if they're
worth it. Probably, if they're commercial tapes, there's so much
print-through that you might as well find something else to do. If they're
not replaceable, you have everything you need if you have a tape deck which
has RCA jacks at the back. Sony used to make one. They do have some which
use USB cords, but I've never bought one. Next thing you need is software,
either SoundForge or something like it. Make sure when you make the tapes
that you don't go into the red, btw. Have something that will either have a
meter and tell you, or listen damned carefully to make sure you're not
clipping. You might not mind now, but over the years, clipping will drive
you nuts.

Good luck.

From what I understand, VBR (variable bitrate) uses some kind of algorithm
to adjust the bitrate according to what is going on in the file..IE, near
silence will require less than would would be used at a constant bitrate.
However, I have spoken to a few people I would consider a bit more serious
about audio than I am, and they are really not fans of VBR at all. I can
sort of see why. You're basically depending on this algorithm to decide
how much of the sound you really want represented. It's a trust thing and
I'm not sure I'd be willing to go that far. It can save you some disk

The easyest choice would be to use one of those VCR DVD recorder things.
Here's the catch though. You'd have to buy one. I know HSN, and QVC have
them some times, but where else can one get one? Your other choice of using
a computer all the way is actually a bit harder. It's all real time so you
would have to weight on it to later eddit the file/files. Oh yeah, this
would also require you to buy a capture card to put into the computer of
choice to do this with.

Re: copying audio cd's onto a computer

2013-10-04 Thread Gary Petraccaro

It just occurred to me after reading your other message that unless it's the
same kind of drive, and maybe the same software, it can't read unfinalized
disks. I put one of these in

my current drive from another drive where I didn't finalize and it wouldn't
play or read. In my case, it was a movie and the software to read the disk
couldn't possibly be the same.

what he has said, it seems to me that his CD's are
unfinalized data CD's with MP3 files. Therefore, I'm not sure that
"ripping" them will work, unless some have had experience to

John,

First, you need to determine if the old radio shows are stored as MP3 or
other audio file types, or if the CD is an audio CD. If
they are stored as MP3 files or files in some other format, then you
should

be able to cut and paste them and knowing exactly what
you did and what happened would be helpful. If the CD contains MP3 files,
than there would be many hours of programming on a
single CD.

If each CD contains only an hour or a little more of programming, then the
CD is probably an Audio CD and you will need to "rip"
the cd to your computer. Even Windows Media Player can do that but there
is

other software as well.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Good morning Larry and Listers.

You may or may not know that Winap enables you to time jump the playback
cursor to a specific time point. If you type CTRL+J you will be prompted
to
enter a time. For example, if you want to jump the cursor to 22 minutes
and
35 seconds you would type 22:35 and press Enter. IF you want to jump to
the
2 hour 28 minute mark you would type 148:00. This is because Winamp
appears

to operate in minutes recognition mode as opposed to the hh/mm/ss format.

Alternatively, Winamp also enables time markers to be defined and to move
from one specified time marker to another, very analogous to setting
bookmarks in a digital book audio file. To set a time kmarker you would
type

m, and to go to a preset time marker type alt+shift+M. I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Rob Tabor

Re: Ripping Audio Cassettes

2012-12-04 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Sure it will. If you can record through a mic using a mic jack, you can get
a cord with a resistor in it from radio shack and use that. You can, if I
remember right, specify the quality of mp3 the machine generates. You would
at worst have to figure a way to cut the tape files into segments. The real
question is should you do this at all. If they're personal tapes, go for
it. But commercial tapes usually don't hold up well. You have heard the
tapes and know what condition they're in, of course. My wife's commercial
tapes were so bad after years that there was no way I could "tune the
recorder" to get the best sound because there was no best sound. Personal
tapes usually have better quality.

Good luck.
Btw, make sure it's a stereo cable if the recordings are stereo.
Good luck.

Hi Evan, Does your girl friend have a Plextalk? If yes, she can hook it
up to a cassette player, with a patch cord and record the casette to the
flash card of the Plextalk. Then tell the Plextalk to convert that Daisy
recording to CDDA format and it will record this onto a blank disk. She
can then put this disk in her computer and import it. Although the music
will now be on the computer, she will need to find it and rename each
track, which will just be listed as "Track 1" and so on.

dbPoweramp is indeed a good choice.
But the last time I tried it out it was not accessible.
I use EAC due to it's excellent CD-ripping implementation which includes
secure ripping and AccurateRip technology.
Dbpoweramp is in fact licensing the secure rip technology from EAC.
And by the way I rip all my CDs to FLAC.

One I'vde found great is DBPoweramp - it does batch ripping from three or
four drives at once if you have them on your PC, it applies different
filters as it rips e.g. trimming silence normalising and using all the
processors at once when ripping. It also is an audio converter and does so
in batch. It compares tracks with 4 lookup lists to get accurate titling. I
like it.

For support of more audio formats such as m4a and Audible Enhanced, the
Booksense is probably superior.

and for sound output the Booksense is probably better, since there is a
model with Bluetooth audio.

For quality recording, the Plextalk Pocket is better.

The difference will be in the features that APH decides to include in
their firmware since they will be the ones that write it. There is a
podcast on Blind Cool Tech, that could have benefited from some
normalization, which nevertheless shows off many of the current features
of the Bookport Plus. Like the Plextalk Pocket, the future support for
Wi-Fi will be a major feature of the Bookport Plus.

The

Is
that what I'm to understand? I have forgotten about the victor stream

Please help me straighten this out. I hope I'm not the only one

Re: bit rate and sample rate

2010-04-28 Thread Gary Petraccaro
I tried a book I was reading for a bookclub on the Stream, and was able to
go

all the way to 32-bit mono. Now, I could hear a difference between that and
128 mono, but, to my aging ears, it was slight. I figure that the
commercial spoken recordings issued as mp3s are at 128 and keep recordings I
want to keep at that standard, but it's strictly arbitrary.

Hi.

Some out there will disagree with me, but that's all right. I think that
for recording just speech, CD quality is overkill. Personally I would use
64 KBPS with 44.1 Khz sampling, in mono. I don't think you'd notice much
of
an improvement with higher bit rates, and in fact you might be able to go
even lower, to 32 kbps, but you might notice some artifacts creep into the
picture.

As I said, this is for just speech recording. Music is a completely
different animal. I personally use 128 kbps mp3 files at 44k sampling. I
know it's not CD quality, but I personally like my files at a constant
value, and this sounds good enough for me.

Have a good day, and don't work too hard.

That's a question you are best off answering for yourself by testing against
the highest quality you can make to see where you can first hear a
difference. If you just want to know because of a theoretical interest,
pick a lossless format and forget the question.

Here's an interesting question. I've experimented with a lot of different
bit rates and sample rates doing voice recordings but still don't know
what combination of the two give good enough quality for speech. I know
you need higher rates for music, at least 128KBPS. I'm only talking about
voice recordings using a mic at this point. What combination of bit and
sample rate will take the least space and give me fair quality speech
audio. What should be higher. The bit rate, or the sample rate. I'm
talking about MP 3 files. I'd like to get a better understanding of this.
Thanks in advance. Joe.

joint. Have you checked by looking at the properties in windows explorer or

My understanding is that joint stereo is a psychoacoustic trick to try and
make lower bit rate encoded files sound better in terms of their channel
separation. I don't believe the monoblock analogy is strictly correct. All
the advice I have seen is to use normal stereo for decent encoded files at
bit rates of 192kbps and higher and only use the joint stereo psychoacoustic
trick on very poor files encoded at lower bit rates.

Joint stereo is, like you have a pare of speakers, but you have a mono block
amplifier on each one.
Regular stereo, is having those same pare of speakers hooked up to a stereo
amplifier.
The joint stereo, gives better stereo channel separation then the regular
stereo.
Hope this helps.

Who told you that? I think you should read the manual.

find many things about the Victor irritating. For example, I hate how
slowly the machine goes through a list of NLS books. You can't just hit
the button five times and be five books further up or down the list, you
have to listen to it read every single number, with puases between. And,
sometimes, it stops after a number and pauses for a few seconds before
reading either the book title or moving onto the next number.

I am supposing that they used less than the best options for software.

I'm trying to replace underlines with spaces. It's not taking it. Any ideas?
These are files made with an earlier audio extraction program and the
underlines make it hard to edit.

Re: What am I doing wrong?

2009-05-08 Thread Gary Petraccaro
No need. The playlist is simply a text file with the names of the files you
want played in the order to be played, each file on a separate line.
Such as
01 myfirstsong.mp3
02 mysecondsong.mp3

The names must appear exactly as the file name, which means that the numbers
above must be in the filename. Place the playlist in the folder with the files
to be played.

If you put the playlist in the root, you must have the fully qualified path
such as:

c:\songs\01 myfirstsong.mp3
c:\songs\02 mysecondsong.mp3

Ok, this is probably an elementary question so I'll just say that now before
  you all start laughing.

I've decided that I'd like to play some of my albums in order as they
appear. So a couple of them now have ready made M3U files but when I open
them they seem to go straight to the end of the file and though Winamp is
open it tells me "track 15 stopped" as an example. Am I doing something
  wrong?

As long as I've played with this stuff I've never once touched a play list,
which is why I say I am assuredly elementary in this arena. So what am I
  doing wrong?

  Many thanks.

The path answer seemed to be the correct one. Actually, I had neglected to
extract the zip files into their own folder so it didn't know where to look.

So now to an even more basic question. How does one create a play list?

If Winamp is going straight to the end, it means it can't find any of the
files. Either you don't have the full file path for your
files (e.g. C:\...) and the playlist file is in a different folder than the
files, or there is some other problem with the file
  names in the playlist file.

Are you able to open the playlist file in Notebook and look at it?

On a list like this one, it seems to me that there are bound to be
discussions that are not applicable to all list members. If I see a thread
that doesn't interest me, I may choose to ignore it, something that I can
easily do by just hitting the delete key.

I think that Tom has done a fine job of offering list members the
opportunity to define the list's direction and I believe that audio as
related to the Mac fits right in to the current definition of applicable
  topics.

Personally, I'm in the midst of deciding whether my next computer will be a
Mac or a windows system and discussions of audio applications on both are
crucial to reaching an intelligent decision. To others, a discussion of how
to listen to some event which is of interest to people who live in another
part of the world is just as crucial. So I hope the list will maintain its
broad base of topics which are eligible for discussion.

Just my 2 cents and nothing more.

Re: Descriptive Video on Commercial DVDs and Downloads

2009-03-08 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Well, they're dependent on the local station to carry or not if the network
makes it available. As for TCM, some movies have it , some do not and you will
have to check that out with TCM's listings which will indicate which movies
have that option. As for CBS, if I did not say it before, NCIS, Without a
Trace, the original CSI, and Criminal Minds used to have DVS. Your cable
system might carry that if the local channel did.

What makes you think there wasn't feedback? I know, for example, for a fact
that Dishnet got feedback when it dropped it's network DVS option. I would,

Amen on this topic. I know I'll probably get yelled at but everyone who
wants anything described should contact congress if there is some current
  legislation.
Remember that this is the reason tv networks stopped describing programs
because they never got feedback from people. There was a time when the

  Hi, folks.

I'm probably about to ask a question that's painfully obvious to many.
But I'm showing up at the descriptive video/SAP party much later than
some. I'm writing to the JAWS list because I am a JAWS user. I'm
writing to the Blind iPod list because purchasing video content on
iTunes is now accessible through use of the J-tunes interface. So I
hope others view this question as at least somewhat relevant.

I'm presuming, first of all, that most Hollywood feature films on DVD
come with a descriptive video track encoded somewhere on them. I'm
presuming the same could be true with downloadable films and TV shows,
too, as from iTunes. Certainly, most DVDs representing TV programs
where action was described in the first place, should have that same
DVS output on the subsequent DVD release. If this is true, I'm
  wondering about the following:

  1. How can I be sure, if a film or TV show is downloaded, to get the
download version that has descriptive video encoded? Is there a good
source for such material? Is there a way I can know for sure about
  this feature before I buy?

  2. When playing such downloaded or DVD content on the computer, is
there a software player that is fairly accessible and which also has a
menu option I can invok for activating or turning off the
descriptions? I've not seen this in RealPlayer or Windows Media
Player, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

  3. Am I being completely naive here? Obviously, I know a lot of
stuff isn't accessible on its face, and I realize legislation in front
of Congress is attempting to make much of this universal. I've heard
of some people going to a place like the Serotek network to download
versions of films that have been uploaded specifically for those
wanting video description. But is this truly necessary? Or can the
same content be obtained through regular channels with just a little
bit of work on the part of the blind consumer?

Just trying to get a handle on this issue, for my own benefit and for
  others I may encounter.

  Kind regards,

  -Kane

I love that I can actually mannually delete the comercials with the help of
the mark keys, (f3 and f4) and deleting each cut, although, I'm trying to
get used to the fact that the cuts are not automaticly deleted when moving
through, thus giving us what it should look like with the cuts deleted.
Other than that, this thing rocks compared to one other video editor I've

ofFame!

List members, you may recall last week I presented a detailed explanation of
a problem I was having with Sound Forge 9 and two stereo channels appearing
in the same channel. In other words, I could hear both channels in each
separate channel as though they had been mixed into a mono channel; hope
  that recap makes sense.

I told you at the time that I had reseated the patch cord into the PC
without satisfactory results. Many of you wrote back to encourage me to
reinstall the audio drivers perhaps or possibly double check to ensure that
Sound Forge was indeed recording in stereo in the first place.

Well, here's why I'm likely a good nominee for the Computer Audio Stupid
Tricks hall of fame: I decided after being frustrated with this problem all
week and trying a bunch of solutions--using a different tape player, etc.,
that I would just start again with the absolute basics. I knew beyond any
doubt more sure of it than I was of being able to breathe, that I had
inserted that cable properly and fully into my PC's audio input jack. But
just for grins, I decided to give that plug one more little nudge. It
already felt tight and in all the way.

Well, you can all guess the rest, and by now I hope you're smiling just a
bit. Trust me, you should smile guilt free about this; I've been laughing
at myself since yesterday. When I gave that cord that little nudge, I heard
it click just once more and felt it settle into the jack ever-so-slightly
further. Of course, my problem instantly went away and I was again hearing
my separate tracks in their separate channels as they should be.

Well, that's what being arrogant and cocky will do for you. I was so
absolutely certain I had that cord in there as far as it would go, but that
extra eighth of an inch or so made all the difference. I figured I'd share
my little story, since none of you have ever done anything like that and
never will. I want you to at least vicariously enjoy a good laugh or smile
at my expense or along with me or whatever you prefer. I guess the moral of
this little story is, no matter how sure you are about your connections,
check'em one last time before you write this list.

Thanks to all of you who wrote back and expressed your concern; I hope
you'll forgive me for wasting your time reading and responding to that
  earlier message.

Nolan, who can easily be recognized in a PC-Audio list group photo because
he's the one wearing the embarrassed smile.

Sound Problems

2009-02-16 Thread Gary Petraccaro
I have a P4 mother board from Intel with built-in sound. I'm using Nero 7. I
want to rip some cds for play on a mono system. I check mono and the
appropriate bit rate in Nero and the rip proceeds to what the software calls
success. Problem is, the mp3s which I play are still in stereo. I don't know
whether this is a Nero problem or a sound driver problem. I have no other
system to test on. I'd appreciate some verification that mono works or doesn't
work from someone else using Nero of 7 or later, or a suggestion as to what to
look at or try.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sound Forge 9: I'm Hearing Both Channels

2009-02-13 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Go through the process of selecting stereo again and make sure you have tabbed
to ok. See if that fixes your problem. In a previous edition of SF I found
that I've made changes and thought I had changed back, but that second change
didn't take.
Good Luck.

Subject: Sound Forge 9: I'm Hearing Both Channels

I sure hope someone on this list can help me diagnose this. I haven't had a
problem until today, and I've no idea what got changed. Here's the
  background:

I'm converting some four-track cassettes to MP3 audio for replay in my
Victor Stream. I'm using a stereo cassette machine to do this, which means
one of my channels plays normally, the other is reversed.

The problem is, I'm not getting any separation in the channels any more. I
hear both voices on both channels. I've checked the source, and the stereo
machine is indeed playing the cassettes correctly. In other words, one
voice is reversed in one channel, the other channel contains the normal
track, and they are very much separated.

Now when I set up the recording attributes in Sound Forge 9, it says that
the sample rate is 44100 Hz. And the channels are stereo. There's nothing
  here that says mono.

Any thoughts at all as to what I'm doing wrong all the sudden? I've played
music through the sound card, and it comes out in stereo just fine. The
problem appears to linked to either sound Forge or to the settings in my
record volume control. This is a Vista machine, by the way.

Please, any help at all would be most welcome. I'm obviously done
converting these tapes until I can get the channels separated again.

And yes, I've restarted the machine several times.

  Regards,

  Nolan

don't know where to find instructions, but maybe the following will help you:
First, you have to find a torrent file which contents you want to
download. Those files have the extension .torrent.
open your explorer, press enter on the downloaded torrent file and TAB
through the dialog and change the positioon where the contents should
  be downloaded, if you want.
  that's all for start up.
I hope you have installed Utorrent, or something similar?
