The Leica S2 is a bit smaller than a Nikon D700--if Leica can do it, so can Pentax. Create something new, exciting, and affordable (within the segment), that's what I wish Pentax would have done. Instead, they're just sticking a cropped sensor in a 645 body, keeping the same registration distance, and repeating the whole APS-C vs full-frame silliness. Unless all those mock-ups they've been showing lately are an elaborate ploy to delude us. My 2 cents (or 1.6p). --M. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- http://www.EnticingTheLight.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Moore's Law doesn't apply if you have to keep the chip some fixed physical size. So, baring someone figuring out a better way to make camera sensors (which is certainly possible) the prices for sensors in that size class are going to stay up in "gasp, wheeze" territory. RED lists their 56mmx42mm "645" sensor at 43 kUSD, for example. The odds of it being worthwhile to produce a 645 *and* a 67 digital camera from Pentax's POV don't strike me as all that high. -- Graydon -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I shoulda kept my 67. :( It was really a tongue in cheek question, but that's the same thing Pentax was saying about the 645D for a while ... so, who knows? If they do, and I can afford it, and can use it, I might buy it. What was the latest unofficial word from Pentax? Re: 645D Again
Yes, pricing in Europe seems a bit strange. A 900 Pound lens in the UK is often 900 dollars in the US, and 900 Euros. There is a real difference in price on the street. I expect lots of this in Japan with small retailers, but not Europe. Regards, Bob S. At the current photographic exchange rate, that should be around...$5-6,000 :-) I will soil my trousers if it's released at that price. And yes, I'll make a PESO of the incident. The currency symbol doesn't come through. If it's 5-6000 "pounds" (Great Britain), I make that $8-10,000 US dollars. If it's 5-6000 Euro, I make it $7,500 - $9,000 US dollars ... using an internet currency converter. Ten thousand USD would be affordable if you can amortize the cost as a business expense. Either way, the prices still look better than Mamiya's offerings. It's better than the price for their 28Mpx model ($15K at B&H) and WAY better than their 33Mpx model (20K at B&H). That puts it almost down in the range to compete with Canon's EOS-1Ds Mark III (21Mpx & $6K at B&H). Have any of the 645D specs been firmed up for sure? Especially sensor size and Mpx?
