It's very impressive and I've never seen any other team do anything remotely comparable. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. It is a never-ending source of amazement to me that people will go to garage sales and argue over a nickel's difference in the price of an object whose condition can be seen, and then go to ebay and pay a ridiculous price for an item -- sometimes more than new and virtually unseen -- because unless you know the seller, you really don't know until you get it if what you saw in the photo is what you got. > On Tue, 17 Apr 2001, Collin Brendemuehl wrote: > > > http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1231060518 > > > > Where do these folks find these buyers? $265 BIN! > > But no one's bought it yet. Not at all, I was just reporting my experience gleaned after 300+ eBay auctions, I have a very good clearing rate and good feedback, before I started auctioning I watched other auctions and distilled what made them successful. I then tested several different methods of sale using similar equipment and noted the outcome which I mentioned before. Being a non-US seller, not trading in US$, shipping costs and delays and payment options put me behind the eight-ball as a seller however I am sure that I do better than many others seller due to my term and conditions and presentation, and I do not offer 5 to 10 days money back guarantee as any round trip will be far longer than this and currency conversion fees are astronomical in many cases. I just present an honest appraisal of the gear and ask that the buyers not bid should they have any reservations, easy. Picked up an Me Super a couple of weeks ago for $33 on ebay, with the meter not working. Got it today, swapped the batteries around so the faced the right way and it works perfectly :) Could have easily gone the other way though. - Original Message - From: "John Mustarde" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, January 05, 2001 11:08 PM Subject: Re: outrageous eBay prices > Yep, high prices sometimes occur, but lowball bidders like me are out > there too. Um, Just a thought . . . the high bidder has a 26 rating on eBay . . . so he's not a 'newbie' to ebay . . . it's possible this guy is a collecter and saw an Excellent ME Super and couldn't resist? If you review the bidding on this extreme example you'll find that almost all the high bids come from two individuals (and most of the other bidders are people with no eBay history, for that matter). The sensible bids stop at either $120 or $165. Everything beyond that is attributable to bidding frenzy (or even less charitable interpretations). -- John Francis [EMAIL PROTECTED] Silicon Graphics, Inc. (650)933-82952011 N. occasional bidding wars to bring interesting results there. Sometimes it is the otherway also. There are several high end lenses moving through at the present time and they all look pretty cheap. ---anything worth over $500 is 'high end' on ebay. If you can find the ad to which you're referring, perhaps you could copy the text for all of us. I'm sure there are people on this list who might want to sell a ME Super someday and would appreciate the benefit of this guy's salesmanship! > >I'm thinking of putting a black ME Super with a 50/1.4 "M" up on eBay. >So I was checking out some of the prices that ME Supers have sold for >before.
